My Lab pup's dad is EIC carrier, mom clear. Will he be healthy?

I'm looking into purchasing a yellow Lab male pup. His sire is an EIC carrier and his dame is clear. The breeder says that he will be unaffected. True?

EIC is a recessive disease, meaning that a dog must have two copies of the mutation in order to express the disease. Given that only the dad is a carrier, it means that he will be unaffected. But you should not breed him.

This would have to be judged as part of the whole picture, as there may be cases in which a breeder makes an informed decision to breed a dog who is a carrier of a genetic problem if there are a number of significant good things about the dog that outweigh this issue - in some cases, the effects of the problem can be minimized by carefully selecting females to breed with who are clear for this genetic mutation. In general, though, I would tend to agree that a dog who is a known carrier for DM should not be bred. If you have an experienced Boston Terrier breeder who is mentoring you (perhaps the breeder your puppy came from?), he/she should be able to give some valuable insight on this issue to help you make a decision.

We are looking at getting a purebred Labrador - The breeder does screen for EIC, PRCD/Eye Disease but will incude such conditions under the warranty. Should we be looking for a breeder who does screen for these conditions?
I presume you mean they do NOT screen for the conditions? I would be very cautious about buying such a pup when there is an opportunity is there to purchase from screened parents - why are these breeders not screening their breeding lines? It may be as simple as never having experienced any of them in these lines but without proof there is little else to go on. Remember that no screening test is 100% proof that the condition could not arise in an individual but it does reduce the likelihood. I would also urge you to consider adopting a pup or young adult unless you intend showing or breeding pedigree lines - there are many many dogs in need of good, responsible homes!

For chocolate labs you need to find a male that is a carrier to throw that gene. The best luck is a dog that came from chocolate parents. Your dog will need that color gene also to pass on half the DNA. Generally you will get a mixed color litter. If you find a make that has already bred before, knowing what those puppies turned out like can help decide which colors they carry

Hi I am looking to buy my first yellow lab. However he has a brown nose and brown eyes rather than black. I want to know if the nose color darkens with age or changes at all. I want to know if he will have any major health problems.
Those colors can both darken and lighten over time. Generally speaking Labrador retrievers can be prone to hip dysplasia, ear infections, allergies, elbow dysplasia and as they get older certain types of cancer such as lymphoma and hemangiosarcoma. For this puppy you could discuss with the breeder if any testing was done on either parent such as OFA hip/Penn Hip radiographs, health guarantee or veterinary records for the puppy.

My pet crooker spanial female is in her menstrual cycle 2 nd week . We know one crooker spanial male whom we r thinking to met her for having babies but I can to know that he is having some liver problem then if my female gets babies from this male .
It depends on what exact illness the sire has. If you can find out exactly what disease he is suffering from we may be able to help more. Some liver issue may be from toxin ingestion but other may be hereditary. I would make sure both male and female have been screened by a vet prior to breeding. .

Max will likely have a normal life unless he inherited any diseases. There are companies which can test for heritable diseases such as one called Wisdom Panel. I recommend to run this test on Max. It's hard to say if his father and mother's close relation will make him less intelligent or less trainable. Max may end up being normal. Time will tell. Continue to treat him like any other puppy. Make sure he gets all his vaccines, that he is neutered between 6-9 months of age and that he eats a high quality, large breed puppy food. Hi, I've recently bought a Labrador pup they've got good hip scores but dads elbow score is 0 and mums is 1? Is it anything to panic about will my adored pup suffer?
There is nothing you can do about the scoring now. I personally would not be worried about it. All you an do at this point is wait until the puppy is old enough and get him x-rayed to see if he has any dysplasia. A score of 1 from one parent does not mean the offspring will be affected. I would not expect any health issues from this in-breeding. The crazy stuff in the movies would only be expected after many generations of in-breeding. However, if both parents have health issues, then the puppy may also develop those health issues much like a puppy born to unrelated parents with the same health issues.

Yes, genetics can go awry when related animals (including humans) mate. It is not recommended that they breed, as you know, but what's done is done at this point. There is not going to be any way for you to know what their genetics are so all you can do is treat them as normally as possible and hope for the best. Sometimes they are just fine. If you see no outward abnormalities that doesn't mean there aren't some internal ones. Again, there is nothing you can do about it at this stage except be aware that some problems may arise and those problems don't always show up early. It may be years down the road before anything is noticed. Try not worry too much and just treat them like normal. Hope this helps. Best wishes!

You should ask for, and be given, a certified pedigree of at least three (preferably five) generations to assure that your puppy is purebred.
