Poor Aria. Take her out, and towel her as dry as possible. Change her cage completely, putting fresh bedding in it. Put her cage near a window by the sun to encourage her to dry out, but make sure she doesn't get too hot.

I am very sorry winter is not feeling well. I would recommend taking her to a vet due to the weight loss and hair changes. Typically hamsters do not carry disease like infect people but I would recommend discussing that with the vet at her visit. I would be concerned about possible dental disease, skin infection, skin parasites or even internal disease. Winter really needs a good exam to determine the cause and provide proper treatment. hope that helps

It sounds like your hamster could have a potentially life threatening condition called wet tail. This condition can be brought on by stress (which it sounds like yours may have had some of recently) and it can be quite dangerous. If not treated by a veterinarian asap, it can be fatal. Please seek treatment as soon as you can. In the meantime, clean the cage very well and minimize stress as much as possible; do not hold the hamster or have any new or abnormal conditions to his environment.

Help!my dwarf hamster is loosing hair and dont know what to do
Alopecia-hair loss in hamster is quite common. The first thing to rule out as most common cause would be external parasites (mostly mites) which the vet can give you treatment to. other causes friction from rubbing against the cage, nutritional, fungal and medical (lymphoma, kidney disease). I would recommend with any hamster with alopecia to be checked by a vet. Good Luck

Thanks for reaching out about Snowball and including photos, although they are out of focus and difficult to view. Hair loss and redness on the skin might be indicative of an allergic dermatitis. Any contact with new bedding, fabrics or detergents? Mites or moist dermatitis are also possible. Try removing wood chips, fabrics and replace with paper products like Carefresh. If the condition worsens, a veterinary visit is recommended. Good luck.

for right now, keeping Eliot fed & providing adequate moisture is the key. Soaking his pellets, offering fruit & vegetable baby foods, even using Oxbows Critical Care for bunnies is appropriate. The spot on his back may be contributing to his condition, but you should check his teeth first. A hamster's teeth are always growing, so they need to chew constantly to keep them trimmed. If they don't, it can lead to overgrown or misaligned teeth which can certainly affect the appetite. If his teeth need to be trimmed, your veterinarian will need to do it. In the meantime, soak hos food to soften it. Keep his cage clean and dry. Keep him warm and as stress free as possible until he sees the doctor. If the spot on his back is due to minor infection or irritation, you can try gently cleaning it with a diluted Betadine or chlorhexidine (Hibiclens) solution once or twice daily. Be sorento dry it thoroughly afterwards.

I am sorry to hear about Marshmallow. With these symptoms I would recommend a veterinary exam for him. There can be many causes of hair loss in hamsters, including vitamin deficiencies, rubbing against cage or chewing by other hamsters, parasites like mites, bacterial infections, and unfortunately more serious conditions like some cancers/tumors.

My Winter White hamster which I have keep it for about a year and 8 months now, the fur around his butt keep sticking together recently. Then you will find bunches of fur in his cage. Why is the fur loss?
I am sorry that sesame isn't himself right now. My biggest concern is that something is causing the crust in the hair on his rear end. He potentially could have a wound, skin infection, parasites or even diarrhea. The hair is likely falling out secondary to this dried debris and him potentially chewing. I would strongly recommend you contact your veterinarian for an exam so they can figure out what is causing the fur to stick together in the first place and possible medications if needed. I hope this sweet boy starts to feel better really soon!
