My dog just had puppies, are her warm breasts panting from mastitis?

My female minpin chihauhau had 5 puppies feb 26 2020...she is panting and her breasts are very warm

I'm not sure how Lucy had puppies February 26, 2020 given that its only the 8th of February. I imagine this is a typo. If Lucy had puppies in January and her breasts are very warm, she could have mastitis. Mastitis is fatal without treatment. You need to take her and her puppies into a vet immediately.

Mya could have mastitis, that would cause her mammary glands to be hot to the touch and hard. Mastitis is fatal without treatment, so she needs to see a vet now. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website.

When puppies nurse, that causes the release of oxytocin in the mother, and that leads to uterine contractions. The pain from these contractions can make the mother pant. This may be completely normal, but because I can't see Lucy in person, I can't say for certain. The safest option is to take her and her puppies into a vet for a check up to be safe. Best of luck.

Yes, I would take Lulu into the vet just to be safe. The color of her teats could be due to so many puppies nursing, but mastitis can occur in nursing dogs, which is fatal without treatment. Because of this, it's always important to have any concerns with the teats checked out by a vet to sure everything is ok. I would make an appointment for her on Monday. I hope this helps!

Yes, this normal. Nursing causes the release of oxytocin, which in turn causes uterine contractions. Lyla is panting due to the uterine contractions. This can occur for up to two weeks. Keep in mind as well that this can be a sign of a post-partum problem, so make sure her temperature is normal (101-102.5F). If she has a fever, then she will need to see a vet immediately. Do not allow the puppies to suckle on the dog that is not their mother. She is getting mastitis (infection in the mammary glands). You need to keep them separated. Please have Storm seen by a vet right away. She may be dealing with an infection or an electrolyte imbalance that can occur in dogs who have recently given birth that could be causing her pain or leading to a feeling of weakness (hence the panting). Both of these conditions can be very dangerous, and need to be treated right away. Good luck, and I hope she feels better soon!

Panting and swollen nipples are quite normal for a dog with newborn puppies, as she has only 2 puppies i would not be too worried about the swollen nipples, they have plenty more to feed from. as long as she is otherwise normally behaving and eating she should be fine.

Lucy has a mass (lump) that goes across her chest under the chest bone. It feels like it may be above the chest bone on the left side. This morning she was panting and seemed happy and was wagging her tail. Eating and drinking have not changed.
In addition to increased body temperature, panting can be a sign of discomfort or pain, as well as stress. I recommend having a veterinarian take a look at this mass. They might be able to perform a fine needle aspirate to determine what it is, and if it is a cause for concern. This is a simple procedure that is done while Lucy is awake, and is no more painful than a vaccination. Cells are collected with a needle, and examined under a microscope. The panting may or may not have anything to do with the mass, but it is worth checking out. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

Please have mano checked by a vet to determine if all pups have now been born and to rule out fever, infection or weakness from lowered calcium levels. This can be life threatening for both mother and pups if not treated early

Hello, my dog gave birth on May 14th. However, she is still panting and looks like she is having a hard time cooling down. Is there something I can do to help her or should i be more concerned and take her to a vet?
I would recommend seeing a vet. She could have a low blood calcium that is causing her panting and restlessness; or it’s possible that a puppy was left behind. Your vet also might determine that it’s nothing to be concerned about but it would be best to see a vet first.
