My Pitbull has a swollen eye and ear. Can I give him Benadryl?

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 5 months old | 80 lbs

Hello, I have a Pitbull Terrier. He turned a 1 year in September of 2019 and weighs roughly 75 lbs. I took him for a walk in the mesa two days ago and since then his right eye and ear have swollen up. His demeanor is otherwise fina. Can I give him Benadryl? If so, how much would you recommend? He has been diagnosed with allergies

Unfortunately it is illegal for me to recommend giving Cisco Benadry without seeing him in person. His eye is quite swollen, and this cannot be treated at home. Please take him into a vet immediately.

Place an e-collar (cone) on him to prevent rubbing or pawing. A cool compress may decrease swelling. Ideally, he should be examined by your veterinarian to diagnose and treat any trauma to the eye to prevent permanent damage or loss of vision. I have a female pitbull who I noticed yesterday her eyes were red and swollen. I gave her some Benadryl and now today she has broken out in hives
This is probably due to an allergy, although it could also be infection or mites. First of all, in order to rule out skin parasites, you will need to treat with a high quality flea treatment (advocate or advantage), then ask the vet to perform a skin scrape - this might reveal an infection or a mite infestation. If all of those came back negative, the next step is to treat the allergy symptomatically and try to discover the cause of the allergy. Three main type of allergies are usually affecting pets: food allergies, flea and parasite related ones and environmental type (allergens coming from trees, pollens, dust etc etc). Some medications can be given by the vet in order to repair any possible skin lesions (like steroids and antibiotics). my Pit bull eyes are swollen and itchy looking
This is probably an allergic reaction due to an insect bite or a plant outside. those reactions tend to resolve within 48 hours without treatment. if the swelling becomes too large or if Bo is lethargic, take him to the vet in order to get an antihistamine injection.

Woke up and right side of dogs mouth was swollen, along with a little swollen on top of her nose, and left eye. Gave benadryl 50mg at 9am. By 1145 am, all swelling was gone. Then, at 4pm, swelling returned but only around her eyes. Gave 25mg at 4. Ri
Benadryl should not be given more than every 8 hours. But it sounds like it has been about that long since the last dose. Sometimes steroids may be needed to decrease the inflammation. Best of luck and I hope he improves soon.

My pit boxer has a swollen lip and nose area. I thought it was from us bumping heads but it has seemed to have grown worse. I have been iceing it and want to give her benadryll. Do you think that is okay?
Unfortunately, it is illegal for the experts at Boop by Petco to prescribe any drugs, including OTC drugs, without seeing the animal in person first. That's because we can't say for sure it's safe for Moana to take a particular drug. You are correct that the swelling could be due to you two bumping heads, and Benadryl will not help that (it would be used for an allergic reaction). I would continue to ice the swelling for five minutes at a time a couple of times tonight, but if the swelling continues to get worse or she starts to have difficulty breathing, then I would take her into a vet immediately.

It is best to get him to a vet. This sounds like an allergic reaction that can progress to worse symptoms where he has trouble breathing which can be serious. In the meantime you can give him one Benadryl capsule or tablet (25mg) to see if that helps.

Dogs eye is red and swollen. Giving him benedryl. Is this more than an allergy?
This looks like conjunctivitis. The benadryl should reduce the itching but I recommend a veterinary exam to check for a corneal ulcer and get eye medication to reduce the swelling and prevent infection. I always recommend an exam and treatment with eye problems since they can sometimes cause permanent vision problems. Thanks for using Boop by Petco to help you care for Jake.

My dog is suffering an alergic reaction to something, her face is swollen. Can I give her benedryll & what dose?
Check for any injuries or sting marks. If there are puncture wounds that ooze blood this may be a snake bite and you need to take Rikke to a vet right away. If it is an allergic reaction and not a swollen face due to snake bite, or a tooth root abscess or injury in the mouth or obstructed salivary duct or swollen salivary gland, then you can try Benadryl. Unfortunately we are not in a position legally to give out dosages. In order to do legally so we would have to have a patient-veterinarian-owner relationship with you. However you can look up a description of Benadryl as a medication here: https://www.petcoach.co/canigive/dog/benadryl/ If you suspect anything else beside allergy, if your dog is lethargic, has breathing problems or starts to vomit or gets diarrhea, you will need to take Rikke to a pet emergency room for an exam and treatment.

Poor Lebron! That looks and sounds like it could have been a bug bite that Lebron had an over enthusiastic reaction to. If it really is just a bug bite, oral over the counter Benadryl twice a day (25mg if he's around 25lbs) and some antibiotic ointment like Neosporin should help. Take care not to allow any water to get in his ears because that could lead to infection. If that doesn't clear things up, I'd recommend a vet visit. Good luck!
