Dog in pain after neuter, no pain meds given. What can I do?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 15 lbs

My dog just got neutered and they didn’t give him any pain meds and he’s been in so much pain, he won’t stop crying he can’t lay down and go to sleep for 5 minutes . Is there anything I can do to help him?

Oh no, that's not good. Poor Max. He should have gotten pain medication. You need to take him into a vet immediately, as there are no OTC pain medications you can give him. Many human ones are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. Please take him into a vet now.

Pocholo has neutered this morning, through public veterinary mission. I was not given a prescription for him. What shall I give him to make his wound heal easily and to lessen his pain.
I'm glad Pocholo was neutered today and I hope the surgery went well! Unfortunately, there are no safe OTC pain medications for dogs, as many human ones are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. I would give the public veterinary mission a call or make a visit to see if you can get any pain meds for him. He should be kept as quiet as possible, confined to a small room to keep him from running around. Keeping him quiet is important to make sure his wound heals normally. Check the incision twice daily for signs of infection, which include redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, and pus. If you see any of those signs, Pocholo will need to see a vet for antibiotics. Otherwise, keep the area clean and dry, you do not need to put anything on it. I hope this helps :-)

Legally, we are prohibited from recommending any medication without a physical exam and a VPCR (veterinarian-patient-client relationship). Many OTC medications can be toxic to dogs, so it important to discuss them with your veterinarian before giving anything. If Max is extremely painful, have him examined at the nearest veterinary ER. If he is behaving normally, crate him or restrict activity until morning and have him seen by your vet when the clinic opens.

Poor Rufus! Unfortunately there are no OTC pain medications you can give him, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. I'd take him into a vet as soon as possible to be checked out and get pain medication. If he's extremely painful, I'd rush him into an ER vet. Until he sees the vet, rest him as much as possible. Take him out to potty on a leash, and bring him right back in when he's done. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

My 15 week old puppy just got neutered this morning and of course he's in some pain. Is there any medication I can give him to alleviate the pain ?
Hello, and thank you for using Boop by Petco. Poor Achilles! We don't want poor Achilles to be in any pain, but I recommend you do *not* give him anything tonight, and instead touch base with your primary vet first thing tomorrow morning. Most likely, your vet gave Achilles some injectable pain medications as part of his treatment today, and many injectable pain medications will stay in the system for 12-24 hours. If you were to give anything tonight that was not prescribed by your vet, it could end up being something that might not be safe to have in his system along with the drugs he's already received. The most important thing you can do tonight is to keep him calm and quiet, to keep swelling to a minimum. If he will tolerate it you can also ice the incision line with an ice pack wrapped in a towel, for 10 minutes at a time. If he still seems painful tomorrow, your vet should be able to offer guidance on what would be a safe follow-up to what's already been given. I hope thi

IT could indeed be due to pain, the pain injection lasts for 24 hours, usually vets do give pain killers to take home for a couple days, if you think he is in too much pain you can request those from your vet. there is nothing you can give it at home as human pain killers are toxic to dogs.

Our english bulldog just had surgery today, and is in a lot of pain. We were told not to give him his prescribed Meloxicam until tomorrow. Is there anything we can do for his pain now?
Unfortunately, there are no safe OTC pain relievers you can give Tuck. Many are toxic to dogs and can fatal if given. He would have received pain relief before he left the hospital, which would be why you were told not to give him the Meloxicam until tomorrow. That being said, however, it's very concerning that he's in a lot of pain. By law, I can't say if it's safe or not for him to have it early, so I would either call the vet who did the surgery to let them know Tuck is in a lot of pain, or I would take him into an ER vet immediately who can prescribe him some safe pain relief.

Do not give him any over the counter human pain relievers, like Advil and Tylenol, as they are toxic to dogs. The best thing would be to have your vet take a look at him to determine the source of his discomfort. He could have a problem with his anal glands or possibly his tail or back. Your vet can do an examination and then prescribe medications to treat. He may need an antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, and/or pain medications.

Poor pup! It sounds like he was injured when he was outside, and if he's crying in pain, he needs to see a vet right away. Please do not give him any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. The vet can treat his injury, and give him safe pain medication.

Some dogs do fine without pain meds but others really need it. If your vet did prescribe the pain medication, then they want Apollo to take it for a reason. I would be sure to phone your vet first thing tomorrow to ask for a refill. Pain is a common occurance after any surgical procedure. You can use a little mild soap and water or baby wipe to help gently clean off his fur.
