My kitten's poop is now tan, firm, and smells. Should I worry?

My kitten has been pooping and it’s be regularly solid and kind of dark but recently she has been going and it’s firm but tan and smells

Angel may have a bit of stomach upset or if you are feeding her something new like treats, that could be the cause of her poop changes. Keep an eye on her for now, and if it becomes diarrhea, have her seen by a vet.

I would recommend keeping an eye on her stools and appetite for now, it may be the food change, soft stools is quite common in kittens in general and they usually grow out of it. If it gets worse or if her appetite is affected then take her to the ER or to your vet.

They are all so cute! If the stool is firm and otherwise normal, the color could be a natural variation, but it can also indicate a bacterial infection. If the stool is loose (like diarrhea), then I would suspect there could be a bacterial infection. To be safe, I would take Angel and kittens into the vet now for a check up. Bring a stool sample for the vet to examine. Best of luck.

This could definitely be because of the change of food but the black color concerns me that there may be digested blood present. Since she is so young and tiny, I would consider this urgent so I would try to get her into the vet soon. I would that she may become dehydrated or sicker if it isn't addressed. Your vet will likely want to run a fecal on her to check for any intestinal parasites. They may also want to know the food you are feeding her. I hope this helps and she starts to feel better soon.

Congrats on your new kitten! Since Stella was on Hill's before, it's not likely the cause of her soft stools. Intestinal parasites are common in young kittens, and that could be a cause of her soft stool. Check with the shelter to see if she has recently received a deworming treatment, and if she has not, I would give her one. If she is up to date on her deworming treatments, keep an eye on her stools and if they become diarrhea, have her seen by a vet. Best of luck, I hope this helps.

Hi there. He could have eaten something that irritated his GI tract, or it is possible he has an intestinal parasite. Fecal tests are only about 80% accurate, so even if he has tested negative I would recommend having another sample tested. If he won’t eat or continues to vomit tomorrow then he should be seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible. Kittens can become dehydrated very quickly. Best of luck and I hope he improves soon.

If your kitten doesn't have a mother to feed her, you need to feed a formula made for kitten (KMR). You need to feed by a bottle every 2-4 hours and then wipe her bottom after wth a wet cloth to stimulate her to poop and pee. Make sure she stays warm because she cannot regulate her temperature. In another week you can start giving a dewormer for round worms and hook worms (follow the instructions on the bottle). At 8 weeks, she needs to see a vet to start vaccines. However, if this continues, I recommend that you have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and possible treatment. There is a chance this will improve on its own. In many cats, a light brown or yellowish color can be normal to the stool. If it becomes more of a pale yellow/white yellow, or becomes loose or has mucus or blood in the stool, these would be reasons for concern and a visit to the vet should take place.

Koko may have intestinal parasites still or colitis. She may have some food indiscretion or sensitivity. I suggest you take a fresh stool sample to your vet for a fecal exam. If she has parasites, she will need to be wormed/receive medication against the type of parasites present, again. sometimes worming has to be repeated. If she has a food indiscretion you will have to change her diet. Best to take her for a recheck to your veterinarian and discuss diet options with him.

That is nothing to be extremely worried about at this stage as it could be only related to diet. I would suggest to start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice diarrhoea, vomiting, lethargy or inappetence.
