How to treat my dog's cherry eye at home without expensive vet visits?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Puggle | Male | neutered | 3 years and 3 months old | 35 lbs

My 3 year old puggle has cherry eye. I have tried massaging it but that didn’t work, unless I did it wrong. Visiting the local vet is really expensive and I am looking for a good solution that I can try at home before taking him to the vet. He does not have any allergies that I know of.

Honestly for a protruding nicitans membrane there really is nit much to be done other than surgery. You could try changing on to a hypoallergenic diet in case of food allergy or tablets for environmental allergy, but I think this will be a waste of time and money. If you cant massage it back in then I think surgery is inevitable.
