My dog's eye is weeping and I see its inner eyelid. What's wrong?

I have just noticed that my dogs left eye is weeping a little bit and I can see the movable inner eyelid

It sounds like he is suffering from inflammation of the conjunctiva, this could be due to infection, irritation or allergy. I would have a vet examine the eye to rule out serious damage then treat the inflammation appropriately.
