My senior dog coughs, falls, and loses bladder control. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Rat Terrier | Male | neutered | 18 lbs

my dog is about 13 yrs old. He has had two episodes , one last Wed. one Sun. He has some kind of a cough where it is like he is trying to clear his throat. These coughs are the start of the epsidoes. He falls over on his back, loses control of his bladder, and lets out a long loud moan . He is on hepato,. After the first episode my vet put him on enacard and vetmedin. Today his cough is almost non stop . It's not a loud cough, but more like he's trying to clear his throat. Any ideas?

It sounds like your vet suspects a heart problem based on the medication prescribed. It could be there is a lot of fluid build up from heart failure causing Thumper's cough. I'd take him back into a vet now.
