My 9-week puppy hasn't had shots. Are they behind on vaccines? Cost?

As a 9 weeks pup how many vaccines does the pup missed because he hasn’t had any since birth. Also, if someone could answer how much it would cost me for the single vaccine? Location: Alberta Canada

He hasn't missed any, puppies aren't old enough to get vaccinated until they are at least 6-8 weeks of age. He's just a week late, that's all. Vaccine prices will vary between clinics, so call local clinics to get a price quote. He will need his DHPPi combination shot.

Unfortunately, it does not sound like the puppies have been appropriately vaccinated. I would suggest having them seen by a veterinarian to have them boostered appropriately and make sure they are on an appropriate vaccine schedule.

I didn't fully understand your question, but if you are asking if it is too late for his first vaccination then the answer is no, it is not too late, first vaccinations are typically given at the age of 8-9 weeks of age.

All dogs should have at least a rabies vaccine and distemper/parvovirus (DHPP) combination vaccine. If your dog has never had vaccines, he will need to be boosted with the distemper/parvovirus combination in 3-4 weeks. The rabies vaccine he gets will be a 1 year vaccine and next year he can get a 3 year booster. If there is a Petco/Vetco near you, then you can have him vaccinated there. I have a nine week old puppy. If I start vaccinating now, would I use a 5 way and how many times?
At nine weeks of age the distemper combination vaccination series can be started (sometimes called a 5-way, sometimes called a DHPP or DAPP. This vaccine needs to be repeated every 3 to 4 weeks until your puppy is 16 weeks of age. I would recommend an examination by a veterinarian if your puppy hasn't had one yet and getting his vaccinations done by a veterinarian. There are a few reasons for this. The vet can examine your puppy to be sure there aren't any health problems/congenital disease that are a concern. The vet can do a fecal test to be sure your pup doesn't have intestinal parasites, which are very common at this age. The vet can also discuss other vaccines that may be appropriate for your puppy (such as the bordetella or kennel cough vaccine and the leptosporosis vaccine). You can be certain the vaccines given by the vet are gauranteed to be safe and effective (and purchased by a company that gaurantees their efficacy and will pay for treatment if there was vaccine failure)

Prices vary widely from one city to another, so I can't tell you how much this will cost. I recommend calling a local clinic and asking how much it will cost to bring Mickey in for an exam and his first round of puppy vaccines. Most puppies will require a series of shots spaced out 3-4 weeks apart, usually a combo vaccine such as DHPP (Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus, Parainfluenza). Some combo vaccines may also include Coronavirus or Leptospirosis in them as well depending on your area. At about six months of age, your pup will also need a rabies vaccine that must be administered by a vet. The following year a booster of all vaccines are given, and then either a yearly or three year protocol is usually done to booster all vaccines after that. There are also many other optional vaccines, such as bordetella, that can be given depending on if you plan to board your dog, bring him to a daycare, etc. Working with a vet in your area is best as they will know the most about any required vaccines and what to tailor for you and Russel. Vaccine recommendations to partially depend upon his lifestyle and where you live. Also, that second vaccine should have been given in a 2 to 4 week window from the initial vaccine. If it was given later than four weeks after the first vaccine, he will need booster vaccines within a 2 to 4 week window. Assuming he was given the vaccines at the appropriate time, Kai should get another DHLPP and a rabies vaccine. If he gets groomed, goes to the park or has contact with other dogs in general, you may consider getting a kennel cough vaccine. Other vaccines are for Lyme disease and Influenza (dog flu). Your local veterinarian can discuss if these diseases are present in your area and what potential risk factors exist. You may be able to find lower cost vaccinations at a low-cost vaccine clinic or a vaccine clinic in general. You can generally find information online. If this puppy was born on April 13th, then she is too young to have gotten any vaccines. She will be five weeks of age when you get her, and puppies are not old enough to be first vaccinated until they are six to eight weeks of age. I would make an appointment with a vet for a week after you get her to start her vaccines. She will not be fully vaccinated until she has three series of her DHPPi combination shot (distemper, hepatitis, parvo, parainfluenza) each given four weeks apart. Until that time, she should not be allowed in public, do not take her for walks, and only have her potty in your backyard. She will be susceptible to catching parvo and distemper until she is fully vaccinated, and since those are so deadly, you want to avoid it. The vet will go over the vaccine schedule with you, and discuss getting her rabies vaccines as well (that is required by law). They will also need a rabies vaccine. Other vaccinations such as Lyme disease, leptospirosis, or Bordetella (kennel cough) may also be needed depending on what is common in your area and your dog's risk of exposure - your veterinarian should be able to talk more with you about this to decide if any additional vaccines are needed.
