Will volunteering at a dog rescue spread germs to my own pets?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shiba Inu | Male | neutered | 2 months and 12 days old | 24 lbs

I want to volunteer at a local dog sanctuary, but the puppies that come in often have worms and need medical attention. I have two dogs at home that have both been given deworming medication. Is it possible for me to transfer germs from the sanctuary dogs to my own?

Yes this can happen, especially with diseases like parvo. Make sure your dogs are fully vaccinated, and keep a separate set of clothes and shoes to use at the sanctuary, and change before coming into the home.
