Flea collar on cat: Can I pet her? Is she safe if she groomed herself?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Manx | Female | unspayed | 5 lbs

Hello, I just put a Adams Plus Flea and Tick collar on my cat 30 minutes ago. I was wondering if I could still pet her or rub the spot where her collar is? I also went online to try to find the answer to this and found out that she’s not supposed to groom herself 24 hours after putting it on but she’s already done that. Will she be alright? And will my family still be able to pet her?

Cats are very sensitive to flea medication, so Mocha may get sick from grooming. If you see muscle twitches, excessive drooling, staggering, vomiting, diarrhea, or difficulty breathing, take her into a vet immediately. You will still be able to pet her, avoid the collar area.
