My older dog is limping suddenly after a long walk. What to do?

I was walking my 9 year old border collie just now when I noticed that he was limping slightly in his left back leg. He also was not able to walk as fast or enthusiastically as he usually does. I have never seen this before so was worried but I couldn’t find any sign if injury or cause of the limping. He just seemed reluctant to put much weight on it. It may just be because he is older now and it was a fairly long walk (about an hour and a half) but it came on suddenly so I am not sure.

The walk may have been too much for Benji. I recommend resting him for the next 48 hours. No running, jumping, or playing. Take him out to toilet on a leash, and bring him right back in when he's done. If he still appears painful after this time, then I would take him into the vet for an exam. The vet can diagnose where the pain is coming from, and can dictate a treatment plan for it. He may also benefit from some pain medications, which the vet can prescribe. Please do not give him any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given.
