My spayed cat is meowing loudly and acting strange. Is she in heat?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

my car is fixed, she had to have a second surgery to remove remnants. Every once in a while she’ll go through this phase that lasts about 2 to 3 weeks where she is meowing really loudly and abnormal around the house. She is also scratching a lot, rolling on the floor, and crouching down and poking her butt up.

This certainly sounds like it could be a heat cycle - especially if her vulva seems enlarged during this time. The next time it happens I’d recommend taking her to your vet for them to examine her and potentially check a vaginal cytology to see if she’s in heat. They might also want to submit a special blood test called an AMH level to determine if there is still ovarian tissue that has been left behind.
