My dog is scratching non-stop. What OTC relief can I give him?

You can try bathing him in an aloe and oatmeal dog shampoo, or using a topical hydrocortisone spray labeled for dogs - you should be able to find this at most pet stores. These things may help to soothe his skin and help relieve the itching until he can see a vet. That is all you can at home besides a weekly to twice a week bath in a medicated shampoo. I would make sure you are on a good flea preventative and that a flea allergy is not a possibility. Environmental allergens may also be making this worse and they do have prescription medicine to help the itch that your vet can get you

He may have a secondary bacterial infection that needs to be cleared up with antibiotics, and he may benefit from prescription medications such as Apoquel which can make a big difference for these guys! You can try an over the counter oatmeal based shampoo for several days to see if that helps. If the itching continues or Joy has any bumps, redness or an odor develops she needs to see her veterinarian as that could mean she has an infection.
