My puppy has a lump after shots. Is it a vaccine reaction?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 4 months and 12 days old | 10.1 lbs

Puppy has lump size of dime on shoulder. It’s very moveable slightly hard but I can press. My puppy doesn’t feel bothered by it at all. What could this be? Should I be worried? Do vaccines cause lumps like this? She recently got her rabies and flu shot.

Hello, sorry to hear about your pup. Yes indeed, vaccines can cause local reactions and lead to lump formations that can be painful to non-painful, firm to soft, and of varying sizes. Most of the time, the masses are self limiting and will resolve. Occasionally, the masses will remain and need to be removed, in even more rare instances vaccines can lead to tumors. I would recommend contacting your veterinarian to inform them of this bump and have them evaluated to ensure it is not getting worse. Hope this helps and best of luck.
