My English Mastiff has dry skin and eye discharge. What's wrong?

The dry areas on Ivy's back could be from a skin infection, or it could be due to allergies. The discharge fro her eye could be due to an eye infection. Any eye infection has to be checked out by a vet promptly as leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. Please take her into a vet today.

Isabella's skin looks horrible, and this could be a severe skin infection. The discharge from her eye could be due to an eye infection. Her skin is really bad and you cannot treat this at home. Please take her into a vet immediately.

I have a male pitbull who suffers from very dry flakey skin and recently mucus in both eyes, I just want to know if the two can be related and have anything to do with his diet he was on dog chow but switched him to a salmon recepie from Beneful.
It sounds like your dog has a skin infection, most likely caused by allergies. Allergies can also cause the discharge in the eyes you are seeing. The allergies can be from a protein in his food or to something in the environment, like grasses, pollens, dust, etc. The allergies cause a breakdown in the skin barrier and make the dog very itchy. The excessive itching and licking cause the flakey skin and infection. I would recommend taking your dog in to see the vet so he can be started on some antibiotics to help clear up the skin and get on a good flea control. You may also ask about a medicated shampoo, these can help clear up the skin more quickly. I would also recommend discussing with your vet some options for medication to help control the allergy symptoms like Atopica, Apoquel, or Cytopoint. Good luck!

I am in the republic of panama, my female rottweiler, 4yrs. old, 115 lbs. has a white discharge, like a mucus coming from both of her eyes, I must clean them 3 times per day. What is the problem
Poor girl. White discharge from the eyes can indicate either a dry eye conditon or the beginning of an allergic conjunctivitis (allergies causing inflammation of the eyes). If she is also sneezing and rubbing her eyes from irritation, then chances are she has allergic conjunctivitis. You can discuss with your vet about trying some over the counter or vet prescribed antihistamine medication to try and help with this. Your vet may want to examine her first just to make sure we are on the right track with her diagnosis and treatment recommendations. In the meantime I would continue to apply warm compresses on her eyelids (while holding them closed) and Henry cleansing the discharge as needed to prevent irritation around her eyes. I hope that Sofeta feels better soon. Best wishes with her eyes and take care of that fur baby.

I would recommend taking Blacky to a vet. Eyes tend to heal quickly or get bad quickly. Her eyelids should be checked. Dogs can have things such as entropion which causes the eyelids to roll in & rub on the cornea (clear part of eye). They can rub an ulcer. Other conditions such as conjunctivitis can cause discharge. A vet will be able to determine what is the problem and proper treatment. I am not sure what you are asking about the skin... however the vet can check at the same time as the eye. Hi. My dog is having red/brown eyes and also white dry skin spots in her front elbows
I'm sorry Athena seems to be having some issues. The red/brown discoloration could be normal eye discharge, or could be an infection in her eye. It really depends on the location of the red/brown color- if it is normal pigmentation or something else. If the dry spots are on her outer elbows, this can be a normal callus formation and not a concern. It also could be a skin infection that needs to be treated with topical or oral medication. I would recommend you take Athena in to your vet to get checked out. I am hopeful it is nothing serious, but an exam by your veterinarian is the best next step. Best of luck to you and Athena!

My dog has been lethargic doesnt want to get up and do nothing hes been eating but doesnt want to drink anything he also has discharge in his eyes patchy skin with no hair and crust also has a lump sticking out of his skin
This is probably due to an allergy, although it could also be infection or mites. The signs are quite concerning indeed so I would recommend an immediate check up. First of all, in order to rule out skin parasites, you will need to treat with a high quality flea treatment, then ask the vet to perform a skin scrape - this might reveal an infection or a mite infestation. If all of those came back negative, the next step is to treat the allergy symptomatically and try to discover the cause of the allergy. Three main type of allergies are usually affecting pets: food allergies, flea and parasite related ones and environmental type (allergens coming from trees, pollens, dust etc etc). Some medications can be given by the vet in order to repair any possible skin lesions (like steroids and antibiotics). Nutritional support may be needed. My English Bulldog was squinting and seemed uncomfortable this morning when he woke up. He usually has a small amount of discharge in the morning, but today he had a lot. I cleaned his eyes then pried them open to examine them and noticed his bottom
That is likely to be due to a mild to moderate conjunctivitis, probably secondary to a trauma or infection. A check up would be needed as appropriate treatment would include antibiotics and anti-inflammatory eye drops. Corneal injuries must be ruled out as well. It sounds like Johny needs to see a vet. We cannot give dosage recommendations or other medication recommendations without performing a physical exam on Johny. He may have a skin infection, mites, flea allergies, or other skin problems which can be diagnosed by a vet in person. Also, please be aware that ivermectin that is made for large animals could be toxic for your dog, it should only be used under vet supervision!

I am so sorry to hear that Mia is experiencing these issues with her allergies and with her eyes. Have you considered the possibility of a food allergy? I would discuss with your vet starting on a trial diet of hydrolyzed protein. Food allergies can present with itchy skin, which then can lead to self-inflicted yet problems. Unfortunately from your description of Mia's eyes she needs to go to vet as soon as you can. Place an e-collar on her until you make it in to prevent rubbing or scratching of her own eyes which could make the situation worse. Because eye concerns with dogs, such as infections, corneal ulcerations, cataracts and glaucoma, can progress rapidly I would have her examined by your veterinarian to diagnose the issue. The precise medication can then be dispensed by your veterinarian. Please do not attempt to treat an eye infection at home with any over the counter medications, drops or ointments. This can lead to permanent damage and unnecessary pain or discomfort.

I recommend cleaning this daily with a hot warm cloth to remove the discharge. Then when you have the area clean apply a thin film of antibacterial ointment on the area below the eyes. That will help heal the skin and stop the discharge from sticking to the skin and fur. I would have Babygurl's eyes checked by your veterinarian. This looks like she has dry eyes, which is a decrease in normal tear production. With this condition the eye discharge is thick and sticky like this. There is medication for dry eyes which will increase the tear production. Dry eyes can be painful and she may irritate the corneas causing reduced vision without treatment, so please have her checked soon. Thanks for using Boop by Petco to help you care for Babygurl.
