My cat had arm surgery. Is her shaking and paw pain normal after?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | European Shorthair | Female | spayed | 6 years and 6 months old

My cat broke her upper right arm a couple of days ago and we dod the surgery (with plates) however is it normal that she is sometimes shaking while trying to sleep, I can tell she is in pain ? Also I am suspecting that her paw might be also broken because she is not stepping on it at all, us it normal? Or it might be also broken but the vet didn’t notice?

Ouch, poor Static! Yes, she may have some pain still. I broke my humerus almost 12 years ago, and I remember how painful it was, even after surgery. I had trouble getting comfortable trying to sleep. If she has pain from the broken humerus, it may hurt to put pressure on her paw because it's putting weight on the leg. It does not mean her paw is broken. You can have her vet x-ray the paw to be safe, and talk to the vet to see if any pain medications might be beneficial to her. I hope this helps!
