My 4-month-old puppy is hacking and throwing up. Should I worry?

Hello my name is lynsey I have a 4 month old dog her name is coco she keeps hacking and throwing up should I be concerned she's already had her parvo shot?

Yes, I'd be concerned about Coco, Lynsey. She sounds sick. Feed her a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If she refuses to eat the bland diet, she vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away.

Yes, I would take Coco into the vet. It's concerning that he's been vomiting for over 24 hours now, and he could be suffering from a severe GI illness, may have parvovirus if he isn't fully vaccinated, or could have eaten something rotten. My dog is vomiting clear mucus and is lethargic and isn't eating. What is wrong with him, and should I bring him to a vet? He's about 5 years old and is a toy poodle.
Coco needs to be examined by the veterinarian today. The vomiting could be due to many conditions including eating something he shouldn't have, bacterial over growth, parasites (worms and giardia) or even something more severe like organ dysfunction or intestinal blockage (which is fatal without treatment). Try to remember to take in a stool sample. The doctor will check him and recommend diagnostics based upon the examine findings and history. Many times a bland diet can help and then a slow, gradual introduction to the normal food can be done. A bland diet can consist of 25% boiled white meat chicken and 75% boiled white rice. This should all be plain. I hope Coco starts feeling better quickly! Please feel free to post any additional questions!

Hi there and thank you for using Boop by Petco to address your concern. it sounds as though cocoa may have ingested water and sand, which can certainly lead to vomiting and an upset stomach. I would recommend initiating a bland diet as outlined below and feed this at least 3 days beyond the resolution of the vomiting. if Coco develops new symptoms such as lethargy, decreased appetite, abdominal pain comma Etc., then I would recommend having a veterinarian examine her so that the most appropriate Diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. Should i be concerned if my puppy is vomiting 4 times this morning? He is 3 months old and he started vomiting brown (his food) and then white/slimy
I would be concerned with that much vomiting. If it's only happened once you can try picking up his food and offering a bland diet of some boiled rice and chicken, however, very young puppies can quickly become dehydrated, so if he's unable to keep anything down at all, seeking vet care is best. Watching out for other symptoms such as blood in the vomit, continued vomiting, bloody diarrhea, lethargy, tender abdomen, etc warrant care ASAP.

Honey is 14 weeks old and from what I was told still at risk for parvo. She vomited tonight. Is there anything I need to watch for in her vomit? It has only happened once and was not a ton.
Poor little puppy! I can give you a home remedy for Honey to see if that helps, as well as some things to look out for in terms of symptoms of parvo. Withhold food for 6 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, she has blood in her feces, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. My 9 week old puppy is trying to be sick but nothing is coming up.
Poor Lola! She could have an infection, parasite, or an upset stomach from eating something. If she is otherwise acting normal then you could withhold food for 6 hours and then try a small amount of a bland diet, like boiled chicken and white rice. You could also add a probiotic to her diet, Fortiflora or Proviable. If the vomiting continues or she becomes lethargic then she needs to be examined by a vet as soon as possible. Your vet can test a stool sample for parasites and then prescribe medications to help treat. Hope she feels better soon!

Vomiting and diarrhea have many causes including intestinal worms, inflammation, infection, dietary problems (including dietary indiscretion or eating things pets are not supposed to eat, food sensitivities/allergies), ingestion of foreign bodies or exposure to toxins, bacterial overgrowth in the gut, problems in the stomach, intestines, or even problems outside of the intestinal tract/stomach including pancreatitis, kidney/liver problems, metabolic disease (diabetes,etc), endocrine diseases (thyroid or other hormone problems), etc. Usually, in puppies, we worry about intestinal parasites, infection (parvo/coronavirus), foreign body ingestion or dietary indiscretion. A thorough history and physical exam with resultant diagnostics such as fecal tests, blood tests, imaging studies such as x-rays/ultrasound can be done to try to determine what is going on.
