My dog has bad diarrhea, is weak, and won't move. What should I do?

Jack can't seem to control his defecation which has recently become very very liquid. He also looks exhausted and won't move very often. What is wrong?

It sounds like Jack has severe diarrhea, and he's likely dehydrated from it, causing him to be weak. This is a medical emergency, and he has to see a vet now. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website.

Jack sounds very ill! When a dog is both vomiting and having diarrhea, it is time to see a vet. Both those symptoms at once are severe enough to warrant a trip to the vet, and there is nothing you can do for him at home. He could have a GI illness, pancreatitis, or a foreign body. If paying for a vet is an issue, you can see if your vet accepts payment plans, if there is a low cost clinic in your area, or you can apply for Care Credit online. my dog can get up and he has strong diarrhea he is not in pain but he can not get up from the floor, he is flat on the floor. what medice can take it? thank you so much
It sounds as Sawyer is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. if he can't get up it's an emergency, i would recommend taking him to the vet urgently, he will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection he will need an antibiotic course and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

Poor Mac! This sounds very serious and I would recommend immediately taking Mac to an emergency veterinary clinic tonight for more treatment. There are many issues that could be going on here, so the emergency clinic may want to run to bloodwork, take x-rays, and put an intravascular catheter in his arm and start some IV fluids. Unfortunately, this is not an issue that you can safely treat at home.

Poor Jack. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, he starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away.

It sounds like she needs to be examined and treated by a vet right away. She may be getting dehydrated and need some fluids, either subcutaneously or intravenously. Your vet can also run some blood work and other tests to help determine the cause and evaluated the function of all her organs. It is very concerning that she is not eating and is very weak. I don't think this is something that should be treated at home with OTC medications. If she has a gum infection then she may need an antibiotic to treat the infection. Call your vet or take her to an emergency clinic for treatment. Hope she feels better soon!

This is very concerning. A problem called HGE or hemorrhagic gastroenteritis could be what is going on. This can be life threatening. I would highly encourage you to have her evaluated by a veterinarian immediately. They will probably recommend running some blood work and possibly some x-rays to determine a diagnosis. She will also likely need IV fluids and possibly antibiotics based on what you describe. I am very worried about her and hope you are able to get her to an emergency center as soon as possible. I'm not sure why you gave Buddy Benadryl. That's for allergic reactions in dogs, not vomiting and bloody diarrhea. He sounds very sick, and it's extremely serious he can't even keep down water. I'm sorry Grayson isn't doing well! Because he's alert and drinking water, it's ok to wait to take him into the vet in the morning. Now if the diarrhea continues, you see blood in it, he becomes very lethargic, and/or he starts vomiting, then I would take him into an ER vet tonight. Best of luck, I hope this helps.

I'm so sorry to hear about Louie. I'm.very concerned about him as one of the dangers of vomit and diarrhoea is severe dehydration and then shock due to a lack of fluids. The body's electrolyte balance can also become very disturbed. The combination of this can lead to an incredibly weak animal that warrants immediate veterinary attention. I'm worried that Louie is very weak or is suffering a complication due to his illness. The only option in this scenario is to take him back to the vet for an examination and prepare yourselves that he will likely need to stay in for IV fluids and investigations.
