Kitten's eye shut with green goop. Should I take him to the vet?

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | 13 days old

I tried helping my kitten open his eyes because he was struggling and he kept scratching at it, as I was busy some green slumly goop came out of his eye. I was that he's eye looked perfect healthy no blood or redness but it shut close again. Should I be worried did I do something wrong?

You should not force a kitten's eyes open on your own, this should only be done by a vet. It may not be ready to be open. This discharge could be due to an infection. You need to have Natsu seen by a vet now.

Your kitty likely is suffering from an upper respiratory infection and should be seen by a vet for an exam and deworming. It will likely need prescription antibiotics. In the meantime (until you can take her to a vet) you can tak a cloth with warm water an soak the eyes. This should help with opening them. You can then gently wipe off the purulent discharge.

Many shelter kittens are exposed to various bacteria and viruses, and upper respiratory infections are common. I recommend that you help Nesquick keep the eye clean by using a warm wet wash cloth to gently wipe away the discharge. If the eyelids or conjunctiva appears swollen, then he should be checked out by a vet. Some viral infections of the eye can lead to blindness. Since most of these infections are viral, they will need time to run their course. Antibiotics may be used even with primary viral infections to make sure that we are helping the body fight off any secondary bacterial invaders. I would make sure that Nesquick sees a vet if he has a poor appetite, is progressively lethargic, or has a rectal temperature over 103. Hi there I wonder if this little baby cat can open his right eye because he already open his left eye, but right eye seems unhealth. Do I need to clean or do something?
You can apply a warm compress and gently wipe the eye to help. Do not force it open though. If you notice a mucoid discharge then that is a sign there may be an infection in it. Kittens can commonly get viral infections that cause this. If it does not open for you then I would get a vet to check it

Hi I have an orphaned kitten with eye crust and when j clean it with a warm cloth there are boogers inside which appears to be green and j take it out before I feed her and Everytime she sleeps it appears again after shes done sleeping shes about 3
Eye infections are very common in young kittens, it needs to be treated with an antibiotic eye ointment, you will need to take her to the vet in order to get this ointment as it is prescription only.

Kittens eye is slightly red, no discharge just slightly closed. What should I do and should I be worried?
This could be the beginning of an upper respiratory, a conjunctivitis, or even an ulcer on the eye. I would try to flush it out with some artificial tears. If she is continuing to hold it closed, then I would have your vet take a look at it. Your vet will be able to determine the problem with the eye and get her started on the proper medicated eye drops if needed. I hope this helps!

Hi and thanks for posting. If your kitten is not wanting to open its eye and the eye is watering, it may have an eye infection that will need treatment by a veterinarian. Your veterinarian will do an eye exam and may prescribe antibiotics or other medications as needed. Eye infections can be very uncomfortable so I would recommend taking the kitten in soon. My kitten's eyes were a bit watery this morning and when I came home this evening they were quite red and he wasn't able to open his left one properly. It's after hours here, should I try to get an emergency appointment or wait until tomorrow?
Poor kitten! If you can, it would really be best to have him seen by a vet tonight, even if this means that you need to go to an emergency clinic. An eye problem like this is not usually life-threatening, but severe eye infections can sometimes cause permanent damage or even vision loss if they are not treated promptly - so the sooner he can see a vet and get started on medication to treat the problem, the better. If you aren't able to take him tonight, I would take him to your regular vet first thing in the morning. In the meantime, you can use a warm washcloth or cotton ball to gently clean away any discharge from the eyes to help make him more comfortable.

Hi, my cat just had kittens on August 30th and she had five kittens. All kittens have their eyes open except one. This one kitten has what looks like green goop coming out of its eye. What should we do? We can't afford a vet right now.
Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Poor baby Panther! Panther likely has a viral infection or upper respiratory infection and now a secondary bacterial infection in his eyes. The only thing I can tell you to do at home is to gently warm compress his eyes. He sadly needs to see a Vet for antibiotic ointment in the eye. Due to the sensitivity of the eye, a special ointment or drop that is safe for the eye needs to be used. Cats are especially sensitive to certain eye medications. It shouldn't be too expensive to have him seen by a Vet. Also a lot of SPCAs have a low cost Veterinary clinic. I wish you the best and a speedy recovery for Panther!

I rescued kittens today eyes are matted and Unopened, ive been nurturing them till I can find a better solution. Their eyes has started to ooze green after light cleaning anyone know what this could be?
Oh these poor little kittens! It sounds like they could have eye infections if there is a green ooze. They need to see a vet for this problem asap, as leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. Please take them into a vet now. Best of luck.

I have a cat with 3 kittens. Kittens are off 3weeks age. For last 4 days kittens started coming out and playing around. Today i noticed eye of one kitten which is not fully open. Attached the photo of same. Need an advice on the same.
It looks like your kitten is getting either an eye infection or has injured the cornea. I recommend to have your kitten examined by the veterinarian who will need to check him for any wounds to the cornea. If an eye infection is the cause, He will get an antibiotic eyedrops. You will need to protect the area from rubbing by having him wear an Elizabethan collar at all times. He will also need to gently clean any discharge with a wet cotton ball. Best of luck.
