My cat ate KFC chicken. She's opening her mouth. Should I be worried?

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 7 lbs

My cat just tried to eat some leftover KFC chicken. Im sure she didn't eat any bones but the meat could be spicy. She keeps opening and closing her mouth, I forced her to drink some water and gave her some cat treats. Should I worried? What else can I do?

I'd keep an eye on Izyda for now. You did the right thing by giving her water. This may pass, and as long as you don't see any stomach upset (vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, excess drooling), she should be ok. If you see any of the signs I mentioned, have her seen by a vet.

I'd monitor your cat very closely for vomiting, diarrhea, inappetence, abdominal pain, or lethargy. If any of these signs occur, your cat should see a veterinarian ASAP. Bones can be damaging to the stomach or intestines if they do not break down well.

Hello, and thanks for your question about Frankie. The most important things to monitor are her appetite, and watch for vomiting. If she's gone 3 days now without vomiting, and with a good appetite, that's a very good sign and she will likely be fine. But if her appetite drops or she starts vomiting again, then she should be seen by a vet. Hope this helps!

Hello, Fried chicken is not ideal for out pets due to the high fat content. The cooked chicken bones typically do not cause an obstruction but in some cases do. As far as the nuts go, I do not know of any nuts that have been reported to cause toxicity in cats. If Gizmo has not had any vomiting or diarrhea, I would not be alarmed. However, if he remains lethargic, vomits, develops diarrhea or does not eat in the next 24 hours, I would advise you to have him evaluated by a veterinarian.

All you should do at this stage is to monitor Negus at home for signs of vomiting and abdominal pain (hard, uncomfortable belly when you touch it). If you see any of these symptoms, please take Negus to your vet right away. However, most likely the bone will be digested and you will not see any symptoms whatsoever.

If she only licked it and didn't eat any I wouldn't be too concerned. Signs to watch out for that she ate some and is now ill include vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, blood in stool or vomit, or painful abdomen. If you do see those symptoms, a vet visit is best.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! Sometimes if the foreign material is small enough compared to the size of the patient, it may be digested or passed in the stools. This will of course take 24-48 hours to be determined. You can monitor her closely for clinical symptoms that could indicate an obstruction such as nausea (lip smacking, decreased appetite and/or drooling), vomiting, inappetence, lethargy and/or abdominal pain. If you see any of those clinical symptoms, have her evaluated by a veterinarian right away. Otherwise, if she is acting normal, it is ok to continue to monitor her for now. She should be using the litter box soon. I really hope she is able to pass the foreign body. Good luck and have a good night!

I would just watch him closely. If you notice any vomiting or diarrhea then I would have your vet take a look at him. Chances are he only got a small amount. You could feed him a little canned food tonight or boiled boneless, skinless chicken and white rice to help bulk up his stool to help coat any of the fragments IF he swallowed any of it. If any abnormal behavior is noticed, I would take him to the vet. I hope this helps!

A small as the bone is, I suspect they will be okay. Cats are less likely to swallow bones in large pieces than dogs . I would keep an eye on them and take them in if they seem sick. In the meantime you can feed them some extra dry food to help bulk up the contents of their gastrointestinal tract to help any bone bits to pass more easily.

Will cat die right away after eating cooked chicken bones?
Hello, unless he chokes on these bones he is not going to die immediately. Fortunately, chicken bones are digested readily due to their hollow make up. However, there is a chance that they may become entrapped in the small intestines and may cause damage to these. Over the next day monitor her for any vomiting, belly pain, or diarrhea. If you note any of these then you should have her evaluated immediately by a veterinarian. Hope this helps and best of luck.
