My dog got tick medicine for a larger dog. Will he be alright?

My dad gave my 43 lb dog tick medicine for a 56-100 lb dog. Is he going to be okay?

Most flea & tick medications have a pretty wide safety margin, so most likely Willie will be ok, but we need to know specifically what medication and what dose he received. If you know the name of the medication, the active ingredients, and the mg it contains, please post again with that information and we can get you more accurate feedback.

Hello, thank you for using Boop by Petco. I understand your concern but Max should be just fine. It does not appear that he got an overdose. If he was a breed with a known sensitivity to Ivermectin I would be more worried (herding dogs, collie breeds, etc). Here is a link to Ivermectin toxicity so you can know what to watch for but I don't think he will have any issues. Usually they will present with neurological symptoms. As always, if you are worried you should take him to your vet for an exam. Hello. I would not be concerned. All of these prodcts have been rigourously tested & significant overdoses are a routine part of this testing. Often, 5x the regular dose will be given for weeks & no adverse effects are noted. So a small onetime overdose that your little schnauzer got will not bother her one bit. Hi Dr, I gave Chiyo (my teacup pomeranian 1.5 kg) double dose of doxycycline.. I gave him third pill of 100 mg, so i assume it is about 33-35 mg.. How bad is this?
Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! The maximum dose of doxycycline is 10mg/kg twice daily (or 20mg/kg/day). If you gave Chylo around 33-35mg that is 20mg/kg and he should be fine. Do not give him any more for 24 hours. Doxycycline is very hard on the stomach so he may have vomiting. I hope this helps and have a great day!

I think I may have switched up my dogs medication from night time to day time and didn’t think of it. Which means he might have gotten his pills in 12 hours instead of 24 hours! He is taking prednisone 20 mg, cefpodoxime 200 mg, and ketoconazole 100

With Crosby's size and the amount he was given, you should not seen any major side effects apart from maybe vomiting / diarrhea. If he seems lethargic, inappetant, vomits, etc., then I would recommend having him examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. Hi there and thanks for posting on Boop by Petco! This is a common question and issue with preventatives in growing puppies. Often times veterinarians may opt for the higher weight range in these preventative products when the weight is borderline between two dosages or when rapid weight gain is expected within the next 30 days. You definitely want to ask Milo's prescribing veterinarian what they think is best for Milo and if going up a weight range would be OK.

I gave my dog a double dose of simparica. It's the up to 44 lb dose and shes 37
Thank you for contacting Boop by Petco with your question about Rockelle. She should be ok. According to studies done by Zoetis who make Simparica, "In the overdose groups, transient and self-limiting neurological signs were observed in some animals: mild tremors at 3 times the maximum exposure dose and convulsions at 5 times the maximum exposure dose. All dogs recovered without treatment." You don't need to do anything. I hope this helps!

I have use cat flea treatment on my dog will he be ok the treament is from 12weeks in cats my dog is a king charles caviler
The problem is usually the reverse, using dog flea treatment on cats. Cats are more sensitive to some ingredients than dogs. Your dog should be fine, especially if it is one of the products that is used on both species, just the dosage is different.
