My dog ingested meth and is hyper. Can I give him his trazadone?

what to do if I think my dog ingested a little bit of methamphetamine and is twerking? can I give him some trazadone that is prescribed for him?

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Peter. Meth is toxic to dogs. Do not give him trazadone, do not try to treat this at home. He has to see a vet now. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website. Best of luck.

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Boop by Petco. If your dog swallowed this amount, that is a very large dose for your dog. Normally we do not exceed 15 mg/kg, and that dose would be almost 23 mg/kg. If your dog ingested this within the last 2 hours, I recommend bringing him/her to your local veterinarian as soon as possible to have them induce vomiting. If it has been longer than that time, and you are unsure if he/she ate the pill, you can monitor for any changes in attitude. That amount of trazodone will likely make your dog very sleepy and sedated, so if you see any of these signs, he/she needs to be seen by a vet right away. I hope this is helpful!

my boyfriend has this friend who comes over every now and then and he uses meth he knows we dont aprove and cant bring it to our home. he was over today and im pretty sure that he was on something. idk what happened but i think my dog either ingested
If Dado ingested drugs such as meth, this is medical emergency and there is nothing you can do at home. Amphetamines are very toxic to dogs, and he needs veterinary care now. It can be fatal without treatment. If paying for a vet is an issue, you can see if your vet accepts payment plans, if there is a low cost clinic in your area, or you can apply for Care Credit online. There is also an organization called Red Rover that give grants for treatment of sick animals, and you can see if you qualify for one of their grants. K picked my dog up from doggie day care amd i believe he ate some meth
If you suspect your pet ingested meth, please take her to your nearest emergency clinic right away for life saving treatment. It is unfortunate that this happened outside of your supervision, but the most important thing is to make sure that Gizmo is going to be ok. I think my chuhuahua ingested some meth and I don't have the money to pay for the vets bill what can I do for him at home
It's best to induce vomiting as soon as possible. If it was ingested within the last 60 minutes, then you have a good chance of keeping it all from getting absorbed. Below is a link to an article about inducing vomiting. I'm taking my dog to the vet tomorrow and they recommend giving him 5 100mg tablets of trazadone?!? That seems like alot....he is a boxer mix and weighs 62 lbs.
HI, I think there may have been some mistake in the dosage they told you to give. Trazadone is usually dosed in 100mg pills and large dogs are given up to 200mg about 2 hours before the vet visit to calm him down. I would hesitate to give him more than that. I would start with 200mg and speak to your vet again to make sure the dosage they want to give him is actually 5 tablets and what their reasoning would be. It is important to give the drug enough time to work which usually peaks in about 2 hours so if you do that, 200mg should work fine. Good luck I hope this helps!

Hyperactivity can be a side effect of Trazodone. Here is an information sheet about this drug and list of the side effects. Take your dog to your veterinarian or a 24-hour emergency veterinary clinic immediately! This is an emergency! Amphetamine poisoning in dogs affects the central nervous system, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, and respiratory systems. Clinical signs may include agitation, dilated pupils, tremors, seizures, elevated heart rate, high blood pressure, panting, drooling, vomiting, and diarrhea. Aggressive treatment, including decontamination (if appropriate), IV fluids, sedation, thermoregulation (and cooling measures, if needed), electrocardiogram/blood pressure monitoring, and symptomatic/supportive care, is recommended.

I have 5 dogs, 1 of my dogs started coughing after I gave him a trazodone, Rx from vet. His beathing is ok until he starts hacking. Just started today, it's Saturday evening. What can I do until Monday?
Give him some moistened kibble or canned food to push down anything that may be stuck in his throat. Keeping him quiet with minimal excitement will reduce the coughing. There is no safe anti coughing medication that I recommend for dogs. With rest overnight his throat may be soothed and hopefully the cough will resolve. Otherwise take him in on Monday. If he is unable to swallow food then there may be something stuck in his throat and that would be an emergency that needs to be taken care of immediately. While it's possible that this was related to the trazodone causing sedation, this is a relatively low dose for a dog her size and I would think you would have seen signs sooner. It is possible that she had some hip pain. Other causes of uncoordinated movement would include a neurologic problem like a seizure, or certain toxins. If she seems to be her normal self again I think it would be safe to try another dose of trazodone during the day when you can monitor closely (check with your vet first). If she is still not walking normally or seems painful I'd recommend having her examined by your vet.

Hello. Thank you for using Boop by Petco. Sorry Lupa had to have an amputation but it sounds like she is doing great! I think you should give the Trazodone. We actually often prescribe it just for this purpose - to keep dogs calm and quiet post-operatively. It is really best for her to be as inactive as possible for at least the next 7-10 days. Go ahead and give her the Trazodone tonight and then call your vet and consult with them tomorrow about how to proceed. Since I don't have Lupa's entire medical history, etc. I cannot really tell you to keep giving it or what dosage to give. Hope this helps. Best wishes.
