Why is my dog's scrotum red with a penis bump and painful to lie down?

Pet's info: Dog | French Bulldog | Male | unneutered | 7 years and 3 months old | 20 lbs

My dog has bright red scrotum and one bump on his penis. He’s eating, urinating, and playing normally. However he can’t get comfortable when laying down and seems to be in some pain.

There may be an infection in that area causing the redness, and the bump could be a growth. I think those things are bothering Louis because he can't get comfortable laying down. I'd have him seen by a vet in the morning.

This could be a hernia or a tumor (benign or malignant) or an infection or sprain. Since your dog appears to be very painful he should be seen by a veterinarian today. He will need pain medicine and treatment according to the diagnosis which needs a hands-on exam.

My 13 week old golden retriever puppy has a red bump on his penis. He doesn’t seem to be acting different and we just noticed it appear today.
That bump could be many things. It could be an infected hair follicle or ingrown hair. It could also be related to a puncture wound. If it remains swollen for more than 48 hours, if it gets worse, or if it seems to bother him have him examined by the veterinarian. My dog has some redness and red bumps on one testicle. He his licking it a lot but that’s about it.
This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking (if any). Hi there and thank you for your post! With the symptoms you are describing, jack could have a urinary tract infection with the increased frequency of urination. The red bumps on his penis could be due to irritation or infection. I would get jack in to see your vet as soon as you can to have this looked at so he can receive the most appropriate treatment. That does look like some sort of growth or irritation. Due to its location, I would have it examined by your vet and a sample taken, especially if it's growing rapidly bothersome, or changing in appearance.

Male dogs have two accessory sex glands located on either side of the penis near the base, called bulbourethral glands. They typically become engorged, firm, and much more noticeable when the penis is erect. From your description, I suspect that this may be what you are noticing. But if you have any concerns, you could always take Lucky to your vet and have them check to make sure that everything is normal :)

Hi, what can I use on my dog if his balls are red? He has no pain but I’m a bit worried cause I don’t want it to turn into something.
I am very sorry that Joey’s scrotum is red. Without a picture it is difficult to know what the problem may be, but I will offer you some general advice to help make him more comfortable. Apply a cool compress to the area for a few minutes at a time over the next few days Place an e-collar on Joey so he does not bite or chew at the area and cause it to become infected or inflamed Bathing the area with warm water and leaving open to dry out If you notice pain, enlargement of the testicles or scrotum sac, change in colour , especially deepening red, blue or purple, discharge or bleeding I would take Joey to the veterinarian immediately. There could be a torsion or twist in the testicles causing the redness or swelling. This is a very painful condition and a medical emergency. If the redness does not go down in the next few hours I would also advice taking Joey to the vet for an examination. It could be skin infection, skin parasite or an issue with a structure within the testicle

Chico could have a urethral prolapse, an infection or some type of trauma to that area. He needs to be seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible. Without treatment that tissue could become dead/necrotic, he could have trouble urinating which leads to other issues like kidney failure as well as long term damage like scarring. Do not give him any human medications as it can be toxic to dogs. Keep him from licking at the area and remove and discharge with a warm, moist, clean cloth.

Yes, I would take him to the vet. That does not look normal. The bulbus glandis should not be prominent at all times; it should get enlarged and then go down. If it is staying red and raised like this, that is not normal.

I am sorry to hear about your dog! I would recommend bringing him in for an examination by a veterinarian given your description and this photo. We could have something like an abscess or cellulitis developing if the area is swollen and bruised, and the penis itself should be examined. We can also get infections inside the prepuce (the sheath of skin covering the penis) that may require antibiotics and it sounds like he could benefit from pain medication as well.
