My cat has parvo and won't eat. How important is eating for recovery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Persian | Male | 4 months and 15 days old

My cat was vomiting and refused to eat, and we discovered he had parvovirus on Friday. He has been at the hospital since, and he has stopped vomiting and diarrhoea(he got diarrhoea when he was connected to the nutritious solutions they give him) He hasn't eaten yet, though. Is it important for him to eat? (through the mouth)Will it affect his treatment? And if he does have to eat, what is the time period in which he could do that? Does it have to be within those days or anytime during treatment?

Yes, it's very important for Loki to eat. If a cat goes too long without eating (about 72 hours), they will develop a fatty liver which is fatal without treatment. The sooner he eats, the better, but he's in the best place possible.
