My dog had vomiting & diarrhea. How long until she's less sluggish?

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 5 years and 7 months old | 9.5 lbs

I took Aja to the vet for throwing up and diarrhea. My vet gave her a probiotic to help. I brought her home and she is laying low but she nibbles at her food and drinks water. She hasn't had a bowel movement yet. The last time she threw up/diarrhea was over 12 hours ago but she is still kind of sluggish. My question is is there a timeline on this behavior? I am nervous that she will keep up this sluggish behavior.

It can take a couple of days for Aja to return to normal. It's good that she hasn't thrown up or had diarrhea in 12 hours. It's also good that she is nibbling at her food and drinks water. Continue to monitor her.

It is it uncommon for the stool to decrease after diarrhea when thinhs are returning to normal. If she is eating and drinking normally, acting the same, and not vomiting, I would continue to monitor her for further bowel movements and any straining. If the diarrhea returns or she begins to strain then I would have her seen by your vet

I'm sorry Buddy has been ill! Vomiting and diarrhea can definitely take a lot out of them, so it's a good sign that he's eating. I would expect that he should gradually feel better over the next couple of days if he's eating and drinking consistently. If at that point he's still not acting right I would have your vet recheck him. They may want check lab work to ensure nothing else is going on. Good luck!

So one last question concerning no bowel for 2.5 days after diarrhea and vomiting 1x. He's not interested in drinking much is that normal as well? I've been giving him petialyte thru a sirynge and adding water to his meal :) thanks again for the firs
I am happy sunny is feeling a little better. It can be normal for dogs not to defecate multiple days after diarrhea. The GI system has to build up the feces for them to defecate. IF he is eating,drinking and acting normal I would not be concerned. IF he is lethargic and still vomiting I would take him back to the vet for additional testing like blood work and x-rays. IF you are adding water into his food it is likely he will not drink additional water

I'm sorry Maeby has been having problems with diarrhea for a couple of days! You did the right thing by withholding food and trying the bland diet of chicken and rice. It is normal to see a period where a dog doesn't pass any feces after having diarrhea for a few days, and I wouldn't be too worried about that just yet. It is a little concerning that she threw up this afternoon, and I would continue the bland diet for another couple of days before adding back in her normal diet. I would go to the vet if the vomiting continues, she becomes very lethargic, the diarrhea returns, she stops eating, she stops drinking, she starts vomiting water, and/or she has pooped in another 24 hours. My dog's name is Brittany she is 5 years old she's had diarrhea for the past 24 hours she threw up yesterday around 10 a.m. once that was it she has a fever of 101. 2 is she okay or should I be worried
That is a normal temp for a dog, so that is a good sign. As far as the vomiting and diarrhea is concerned if she is eating and acting normal you can try a bland diet such as boiled chicken and rice for a few days. However, if she is lethargic, not eating well, has any blood in her stool, or otherwise appears sick then she should be seen by a veterinarian immediately. Hi! My Great Dane was just taken to the vet about two weeks ago to get caught up on his shots. He also had fleas up until a couple days ago and now he is having diarrhea in the house, which is something he NEVER does, and is vomiting not even 5 minut
I am concerned about this amount of vomiting and diarrhea. Since the vaccines were 2 weeks ago they are not likely the cause of the symptoms. I would withhold food (small amounts of water are ok) for 12-24 hours and see how he does. If the symptoms continue after fasting then I would recommend having Sam checked out by your vet. They may need to run blood work or take X-rays to determine what is going on. Your vet can also give Sam so medication to help stop the vomiting and some antibiotics to help clear up the diarrhea.

My dog was limping after playing. I took her in to a vet and they gave her carprofen 100mg. next day i had to bring her back to get an xray. they sedated her. 4 days later i had to bring her back in with severe diarrhea. she also hasn't been eat
If she is still vomiting and having diarrhea after a week than your vet should run blood-work to check her kidneys and liver since she was on a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication. You vet could also try an anti-vomiting medication called Cerenia and an anti-diarrhea medication, like Endosorb to see if that helps. Please call your vet and let him/her know she is still having problems and have her rechecked.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Chico. If he is eating, drinking and acting normal without vomiting, then it is likely ok to monitor him. The diarrhea can take a bit of time to resolve. If he seems to be getting worse or starts vomiting again, then he will need to be seen a second time. I hope this information helps!

Lola threw up yesterday & had diarrhea. Today her poop is harder but she yips if I squeeze her stomach. Should I be concerned? She ate & is drinking.
Poor Lola - it sounds like her stomach hurts a bit. If she is eating and drinking today and her poop is improving, it should be okay to continue monitoring her for the next day or two. You can feed her small amounts of a bland diet such as plain boiled chicken and rice for the next few days to help settle her stomach and get things back to normal. If she begins vomiting again, stops eating, or begins acting very lethargic, then I would recommend taking her to the vet since these can be signs of a more serious problem such as pancreatitis.

My dog has had diarrhea for the last 36 hours. However she is eating and drinking water fine, and us acting normal.
There are many reasons why dogs develop diarrhea. Some of these reasons are that they are something they shouldn't like trash, fatty foods, or possibly ate something that isn't food at all, such as a piece of a toy, stick, or stone. A dog may also develop diarrhea from parasites, ingesting a toxin, or some sort of infectious disease, among many other possibilities. My general cutoff if a dog is eating and drinking well and acting normally is 36 hours without the diarrhea resolving likely warrants a trip to the veterinarian. Your vet will examine Natty Boh and may recommend abdominal radiographs and possibly some bloodwork. The vet may prescribe an antidiarrhea medication and because diarrhea can lead to dehydration, they may offer to give her some fluids either under her skin (subcutaneously or in an IV). Until you can get Natty Boh to the veterinarian I would recommend making sure she is drinking well. You can also try a bland diet of plain boiled boneless skinless chicken breast and
