Dog's private parts red/swollen after grooming? What can I do?

My 10 month old cockapoo got groomed today. The groomers shaved his testicles, so now they’re all red and swollen. He keeps repeatedly licking them, as well as scooting his butt on the ground. His anus is also red and swollen. What can I do? Any home remedies?

Oh no, poor Benji. Take a cup of oatmeal, and put it into a blender to make a fine paste. Then add to to a warm bath for him, and put him into it. Have him seen by a vet in the morning to get this treated.

Poor Benji! This can sometimes happen after grooming, if there is some skin irritation in these areas caused by the clippers. You can try applying some topical hydrocortisone spray to the irritated areas every 8-12 hours for the next few days to help give him some relief - you should be able to find a spray labeled for use in dogs at most pet stores. I would also recommend mentioning to the groomer next time that he had this issue - that way, they can be extra careful not to give him any "clipper burn" in these sensitive areas in the future :)

This looks serious enough to take Grayson to a veterinarian. Try to see your veterinarian tomorrow, or take him to a pet ER. This looks seriously infected/inflamed and Grayson will need pain medicine and likely a prescription antibiotic to alleviate the swelling and infection. Make sure he cannot lick his prepuce and penis (either with an e-collar or a snug fitting t-shirt) as licking will introduce more bacteria.

I would give him a cool water bath with a hypoallergenic shampoo to soothe the skin. He should be in a cone if he’s licking the area. It is most likely from the shaving. You can give Benadryl to calm the itching. There is a section on this website with dosages and facts about common over the counter medications you can give your dog. The cortisone cream may help calm the skin too. This may take several days for the irritation to improve. If he makes sores please take him in for an exam and medication to control the itching. I have a shorkie that is 1 yr 6 months. he was neutered almost a year ago. the extra skin from his surgery is red and swollen and hurts him. he doesn't play or jump like normal. if i move from a room to another room he follows only to quickly sit dow
Ouch, poor Dez! This redness and swelling could be due to clipper burn from the grooming, or he could have an infection from the burn. I would make him a tepid oatmeal bath, and soak him in that for 10-15 minutes to see if that helps with the redness and swelling. I would do that tonight and tomorrow morning to see if that helps with the redness and swelling. If it does, he should see a vet, as he may need a topical cream to treat it. I would call around the local area to see if there is a vet open to see him at that point.

My yorky dog is running arround and I saw that his penis skin if back down and the penis it self looks swolen and he is liking. What can it be or what can.I do now.
It could be that Benji's penis is stuck out of the prepuce (a condition referred to as paraphimosis). Prevent any licking with an e-collar (cone), as this could damage the tissue and cause infection. Benji needs to see his vet immediately to pull the prepuce back into place.

My 7.5 year old Chihuahua has swollen, irritated and red vulva after visiting the groomer yesterday. There is not discharge or odor but she is constantly licking and appears to be experiencing discomfort. She will not sit on her bottom. What can I do
My guess is that she got some razor burn around the vulva. Do you have any hydrocortisone cream? If so, I would use that. Just put a thin layer on the vulva (not inside) twice a day. Do not let her lick it off. If she is licking you will need to get her a cone collar to wear. If you don't have any hydrocortisone cream you can get some at any drugstore. I recommend getting 0.5%. These ones that are made for dogs would be best. You can get them at Petco. My dog got groomed on Friday, however,they shaved his testicles, and now he won't stop licking, and crying.. What can I do to help him?
Poor guy. He must have very sensitive skin and is having a hypersensitivity reaction in that area. I would recommend doing a gentle cleanse of his testicles with a mild soap (i.e Dove or oatmeal based shampoo) and warm water, letting it air dry, and then applying a topical soothing spray (i.e. Hydrocortisone spray) from your local pet store. You can also apply a thin layer of Neosporin if he tolerates it to help prevent secondary infections. Place an e-collar (cone) over him to prevent him from licking it further and see if this resolves in a few days. If not, then he may need additional treatment (i..e steroid shot +/- medicated ointments) from your local vet.

My dogs penis sheath is red and looks irritated also looks swollen and raw. There is no discharge that I can see,he shows no sign of pain but does lick the area so we have a cone on him to stop him from irritating it further.this happened once before
It is possible he is sensitive to shampoos or if the area was shaved he may have developed 'clipper rash' - very careful grooming in this area will be important to reduce the risk of it happening again. Keeping the cone on for a few days and gently bathing the area in cool water will help - I would not recommend any ointments or creams be applied as they may irritate the area further

It looks like it's possible that she has clipper burn from the shavers. I don't think it's an emergency but you should get her to your vet for an exam in the next day or so. Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This may be due to a mild infection and/or allergies. You can try to use a medicated shampoo containing chlorhexidine twice weekly for 2 weeks. If there is no improvement or in the meantime this appears to be getting worse, have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Good luck and have a good night!
