What's causing a new patch of missing fur on my dog's back leg?

Hi there, I just discovered this patch (see picture) on his right back leg. It’s in an area where it’s seems to be less fur normally anyway, but this is definitely more of a patch. What could be its cause? Best and many thanks Julia

Hi Julia! This could be from an injury, Mumman may be over-grooming the area, or he could have a skin infection. I think it's best to have this examined, diagnosed, and treated by a vet. I hope this helps!

My dog has a patch on each of her hind legs where she is missing fur. It's not to the point where you can see the skin, it's just thinner.
Patches of thinning hair could be caused by a number of different things. If the underlying skin appears normal (no redness or irritation), she doesn't scratch or bite at the areas, and they've been present for a long time without getting larger then this may be normal for her - dogs can have different hair patterns just like people, and some may have areas that are a bit thinner than others. If this is a new problem, or if you see her scratching or chewing at these areas, then some possible causes would include a skin allergy, a bacterial or fungal skin infection, skin mites (mange), or fleas. If the areas are bothering her, then I would recommend having her examined by a vet - he/she can do some simple skin tests if needed to determine the problem and get her started on appropriate medication to treat it.

My 1 year old cat Moo has a small patch of fur misding on her back leg. Its like a bald spot what could that be?
This bald patch on Moo Moo could be caused by trauma, or her pulling the hair out of that area due to itchiness. Itching in cats could be due to fleas, mites, allergies, or ringworm. I would keep an eye on the spot for now. If the hair doesn't grow back, or the spot gets bigger, then I would take Moo Moo into the vet for an exam to rule to one of the causes of itchiness I mentioned above.

Why does my dog have white spots on his leg
From the photos here it looks like these are patches of hair loss. We can have hair loss at points of pressure if a dog likes to lay on hard surfaces, but we also worry about things like ringworm (a fungal infection), skin mites, and bacterial infection causing patches of hair loss. I would recommend bringing your dog in to the vet to examine the area. They may recommend a fungal culture if ringworm is suspected or a cytology of the skin to check for bacteria or a skin scrape to check for mites.

I have noticed just a little bit ago that on the back left hip(top side) has a patch of fur missing and she has about a dozen scabs, a light brown color that look like they are healing but I can't figure out whAt cased it or how to fix it.
Poor Mia! It could be that she injured herself causing this patch of fur missing and the scabs, or she could have been very itchy leading to self trauma. I would keep an eye on it for now since it appears the area is healing. Should the area not heal over the next week or so, you notice her biting or scratching at the area, or if it appears to appears to spread, then I would have Mia seen by a vet.

My 2 year old dog has a red circle spot on her leg her fur is gone from that area. Few weeks ago I noticed dirt like spots on her belly thought is was from outside. She is not itchy don’t seem to bug her. I look it up on google and now I’m worried.
It's hard to tell, but this could be from an injury or it could be a ringworm lesion. To be safe, I think it's best to take Mia into the vet this weekend to get it diagnosed and treated. I hope this helps!

Hi there. Many things could be causing it. It could have been a good scratch, or it could be early signs of a mite infection called demodex. If it spreads or doesn’t seem to be improving then I would recommend having him examined by your veterinarian. Best of luck and I hope he improves soon.

Hi and thanks for your post on Boop by Petco! Some possibilities for the growing bald spot may include a fungal or bacterial infection, demodex mites or may an indication of an underlying allergy. Your veterinarian can diagnose these potential conditions with an exam, fungal culture, skin cytology and skin scraping, I would recommend Koko visit her vet soon to have the possibilities above ruled out.

My dog has 2 small spots on her back leg with no hair on it and she is very itchy and she had it about a week she 70 lb mix breed
Without seeing a photo of the spots it is not possible to assess the lesions. These could be caused by insect bites. Your dog could be suffering from an allergy, mites, fleas, a bacterial or fungal infection. each of these requires a different treatment, so it is important to find out what is causing the itch. You will need to take your dog to a veterinarian for a skin exam. Your vet will do a thorough exam and maybe a a skin scrape. He will then discuss the options with you and then prescribe medications, possibly give an injection to stop the itching.

This spot in my dog’s leg has light hair iam afraid it is something dangerous my oldest dog has it but eventually it was because seh sit too much on hatd land so the hair was removed once i solved this the hair came back.
Hello. All I can see is a small area of dermatitis on the leg. It can have many causes, but you can treat this with an over the counter skin antiseptic called Hibiclens. Gently scrub the skin twice a day & dab dry ( do not rinse ). Do this for about 2-3 weeks & the lesion should clear up. But since I cannot make any kind of actual diagnosis, if the skin becomes more irritated or the area does not seem to be healing, please consider seeing your veterinarian. i have a mini poodle black his about 8 years old. this morning we noticed that he has no fur on his back leg by his nails.
This appears to be a skin infection that's causing this to be red/inflamed and lose hair. They usually get this when something gets stuck in-between the toes, or a primary infection develops in the skin or under the toenail. It's best to have a veterinarian examine him sometime in the next day or so, because if something is stuck under the skin, then it will need to be removed in order for the wound to heal. Otherwise it can get much worse. For now you try doing to following: 1) Clip the hair around the area and expose all of the sore skin. 2) Wash/spray the area with just cool, clean water (no soap or other antiseptics) for at least 5 minutes at a time. Do this at least twice a day. 3) Bandage the wound with gauze and apply an over-the-counter antibacterial cream (i.e Neosporin) to the wound. Keeping it covered and keeping Sammy from licking it will be the most difficult part of the treatment. You can help keep the bandage on by placing a good (really sticky) tape above
