My Persian cat is shedding a lot, but seems healthy. What's wrong?

It could be Snowy is suffering from allergies, a skin infection, mites, fleas, or even a medical causing her hair loss. This isn't normal, so you need to have her seen by a vet to have this diagnosed and treated.

Poor Chopin! There are a number of different things that can cause bald spots and hair loss like this in cats. Some common possibilities would include allergies, fleas, a bacterial or fungal skin infection, or skin mites (mange). Treatment will depend on what the underlying problem is, so I would recommend taking him to the vet for an exam when you are able to. Your vet can do some simple skin tests to help diagnose the problem and get him started on appropriate treatment depending on what is found.

Hi, I wanna know if hairfall is normal ? My kitten is starting to have it now but she used to have none. Since I read some articles & made me a bit worried, I wanna know your opinions. As far as I know some breeds have more hair falling than others.
Shedding is normal for nearly all cat breeds including Himalayans, and the amount of hair lost can be seasonal. Excessive shedding to the point where the cost is thin or there is hair loss would not be normal. If Noushmc has areas of bare skin, other skin lesions, or if she seems itchy I’d recommend having a vet examine her.

My cat short hair is shedding excessively. I just adopted her a month ago. Her excessive shedding just started. She is an indoor cat.
Some cats can shed more than others and it may be normal for her. It can also be a sign of allergies, a food intolerance or skin disease. If she has any hair loss, is grooming excessively or if her skin looks red underneath I would recommend having her examined by your veterinarian. Otherwise you may just need to brush her more frequently!

The hair loss could be several things including allergies, fleas, skin mites or ringworm (which humans can get). Since this became a sudden problem, I recommend to have the cats examined by the veterinarian for the fastest diagnosis and treatment. You can try adding in an omega 3 fatty acid supplement for cats, this can help improve the skin health. You may also try changing the diet to something like Royal Canin or Nutro as they are aimed at skin health. Best of luck and please feel free to post any additional questions.

Some cats shed more than others and it is probably mostly related to the type of coat. As long as her skin looks normal and the vet is not concerned I think it's unlikely there is a medical reason for the hair loss.

Hair loss can be a sign of external parasites like fleas or mites, allergies to food, or seasonal allergies. In some rare circumstances cats seem to over groom themselves due to anxiety. It sounds like Tota may have a seasonal allergy to something in the environment since her symptoms seem to come and go. There are some prescription medications that can help with allergies so I'd recommend making an appointment with your veterinarian.

Why is my cat kilo shedding so bad. It's alot more than a normal cat
Excess shedding can be a result of changes in the season so it is possible it is associated with weather warming up, but we can also see excessive shedding with other problems such as allergies. I would recommend having your vet examine Kilo to check for any underlying problems. In the meantime you could start a supplement good for skin such as a fatty acid supplement like Welactin which can be found online.

With this breed and the signs I would be worried about ringworm. Persian cats and other long-haired breeds are prone to this type of fungal infection and in fact the mother may have it and be what's called an asymptomatic carrier. I recommend practicing strict hygiene protocols with handling the kittens and discussing with your veterinarian if they feel they should be testing for ringworm. I agree with your veterinarian that this is unlikely to be a side effect of the medication previously given.

White cats shedding too much do I need coat food
Cats can lose hair for multiple different reasons. Some reasons include poor diet, parasites (fleas/mites), infection (bacteria, yeast), or metabolic problem. You will need to talk to your veterinarian about finding the cause so that you can get her on the right treatement. In my experience it is unlikely that the food will help with the shedding problem, although omega 3 supplement will help maintaining what is left in good condition.
