My dog keeps licking his red, swollen leg. How can I stop him?

Hello I was wondering how do I make my dog stop licking his leg? He keeps licking it and now it’s red and a little swollen. Please help

Tyler is licking it because it bothers him. You can put an Ecollar on him to stop him from licking, and you can make one at home or buy one at a pet store. Ultimately, however, it won't solve the initial problem, and he will need to see the vet for it.

Thank you for providing pictures of the scab on Elliott! It looks like it could be a wound that's healing, and him licking it will disturb the healing process and could introduce infection into the area. I would put an Ecollar on him to keep him from licking it until it heals completely. You definitely should call the vet in the morning, but until then, we have to stop the licking or it will make things worse. Put an Ecollar on her to keep her from licking it. My dog is licking this area on his leg, otherwise in good health. It's obviously very irritated. I assume the answer is a bath, then topical treatment and a cone to keep him from licking. What should I do/what treatment would you recommend?
An e-collar (cone) is definitely recommended to prevent further licking. Keep the area clean and dry. A dilute betadine or chlorhexidine solution can be used for cleansing. A topical product, such as Vetericyn, can be used after cleaning. You can find it in the local Petco. This may be enough to allow healing, but if not then a trip to the veterinarian for an exam would be necessary. Systemic antibiotics may be indicated to treat infection.

What could cause this sore on my dog’s leg? It started out white and now has turned into what appears to be an open sore. She has been licking at the area frequently.
Poor Jada! It could be she injured herself causing the sore. It's not good that she keeps licking it, so I would put an Ecollar on her to stop that. I can put a link below on how to make one at home. Ouch, poor pup. I would gently clean hi's wound with warm water and antiseptic soap. To keep him from licking at it, you can put an Ecollar on him. You can get one at a pet store or make one at home. Keep the wound clean and dry, and monitor it for signs of infection. If you see redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, or pus, then it is infected and he will need to see the vet for antibiotics to treat it.

My dog licks the inside of both back legs and causes the skin to turn red. What is the best product to put on it for him to quit licking?
Place an e-collar (cone) on him to prevent further licking. Consider an exam with your veterinarian to diagnose and treat the underlying cause. Possibilities include parasites (fleas, mites), infection (bacterial or fungal) and allergies (environmental, foodborne, etc). Discuss allergy testing, hydrolyzed diets, food elimination trials and antihistamine use with your veterinarian.

hi my dog has a little redness on his leg from where hes itched it or grazed it? it has scabbed over just little red on his leg ?
Try to keep the area clean and dry and make sure Toby isn't licking at it (if he is you can put an e-collar on for a few days). Usually little scrapes will heal on their own but if it isn't healed in the next 48 hours I would talk to your veterinarian who may want to get a better look at the area and may prescribe medicated cleaning products, antibiotics, and even pain medication if it seems to be bothering Toby. On Friday I noticed my dog worrying at his hind paw; after a few hours he hadn't stopped and it was looking red so I gently wiped between the pads and found a flying bug. Since then he keeps licking at it and it's now raw and slightly swollen. As of
These type of lesions can have many causes. Dogs often get these hot spots (aka acral lick granulomas) for a few different reasons, so it's difficult to say what's causing it. Ty may be over-licking the area because it's sore, has something like a thorn stuck in it, or it has an infection. In fact, these types of lesions tend to develop infections in the skin despite the cause. It's best to have a veterinarian examine it to see if they can locate the source of the pain. If the source is not identified and treated, then this will not get better. For now, you can do the following: 1) Clip the hair around the area and expose all of the sore skin. 2) Wash/spray the area with just cool, clean water (no soap or other antiseptics) for at least 5 minutes at a time. Do this at least twice a day. 3) Bandage the wound with gauze and apply an over-the-counter antibacterial cream (i.e Neosporin) to the wound. Keeping it covered and keeping Ty from licking it will be the most difficult

My dog has been licking and biting her right front leg for the past three weeks. I recently noticed that the spot that has been bothering her is raw (see attached photo). What can I do to heal this spot and prevent further irritation?
First thing you need to do is get an E-collar (cone) for her to wear.
