My dog is licking a rash near his groin and tail. Can I use cream?

My dog has a rah beside his groin area and his tail is very irritated. He also has been licking the area were he got neutered, I just wanna know if I should try some rash cream some anti-itch cream spray or something

Thank you for contacting PetCoach with your question about Romeo. Poor boy. This rash could be caused by fleas, mites, or allergies. The cause of the rash needs to be diagnosed so he can be treated correctly. I do not recommend using a rash cream or anti-itch cream. Not only may it be the wrong treatment for the rash, but he will just lick it off and these creams contain ingredients not safe for a dog to ingest. I'd have him seen by a vet to have this diagnosed and treated. Tonight, put an Ecollar on him to keep him from licking. You can buy one at a pet store or make one at home. It appears to be a superficial skin infection. Could be from shaving too close (clippers)?? The first think you have to do is stop her from licking that area. You will have to get a cone collar for her to wear until it is healed. Be sure to get a size that is long enough to go past the end of her nose or she will still be able to lick. My dog has a scabbed up rash in his arm pit in groin area. He won't quit licking it, and it seems to be getting worse. They look like tons of bug bites but I'm not sure
Ok. The first thing you need to do is stop him from licking!! You can go to any large pet store and purchase an Elizabethan collar (aka: E-collar, cone). Take him with you when you buy it as it needs to be properly fitted. The cone portion must be long enough to go past the end of his nose or he will still be able to lick. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-x64MQlDPeo It will never get better if he doesn't stop licking it. Second step is to use a topical medicated shampoo and spray like the ones I linked to below to see if you can get the rash to clear up. If the rash does not start to look better within 5-7 days then you will need to get him to your vet for an exam. First bathe with the shampoo. Follow the instructions to a "T" on the label. After he is dry you can use the spray as a leave-on treatment. Spray 2x a day. My dog have rashes on his leg? He continuously licking it. What medicine should be given for that ?
Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! The black hairless area is a normal elbow callus. The pink area could be a growth or irritation or a skin infection. I would prevent the licking by using an E-collar. Then I would apply a triple antibiotic cream. Force him to lay on soft bedding to prevent further trauma and you can try an antihistamine. If there is no improvement the area should be looked at by a Vet as he may need oral antibiotics and a steroid or apoquel. My 6-7 month old pup has developed a rash around his groin. Is this serious? What is it? Can/should I put human Benadryl or cortisone cream on it until he can see a vet?
Do not put any cream on it. Many human ointments contain multiple other ingredients which are not necessarily safe to be swallowed, and dogs do tend to lick these creams off. You can try giving him an oatmeal to see if that helps. Edgar may have puppy pyoderma, which is a skin infection. I'd see if you can take him into the vet in the morning. Best of luck.

My dog sudden has a new rash, started red itchy, now darkening can I use triple antibody cream or hydrocortisone cream on her
I don't think either of those will help much, but they won't hurt, just make sure that your dog doesn't lick it off. This rash looks evident of chronic inflammation, which could be caused by atopy, flea allergies, food allergies, chronic yeast or bacterial infection, mites, etc. I would recommend that you have your dog examined by a vet so that the actual cause of the rash can be diagnosed and treated to prevent flare-ups on the skin.

My dog is biting in her private parts. she has a little rash I was wondering what it is and what can I put on it.
The rash could be irritation from the licking and chewing, or she could have a secondary bacterial infection. I wouldn't recommend using any topical medication since she would be likely to lick it off - if she continues to lick I would recommend seeing your veterinarian for an exam.

Hi, and thanks for your question. This could be due to an allergy, although it could also be infection or mites. First of all, in order to rule out skin parasites, you will need to ask the vet to perform a skin scrape - this might reveal an infection or a mite infestation. If all of those came back negative, the next step is to treat the allergy symptomatically and try to discover the cause of the allergy. Three main type of allergies are usually affecting pets: food allergies, flea and parasite related ones and environmental type (allergens coming from trees, pollens, dust etc etc). Some medications can be given by the vet in order to repair any possible skin lesions (like steroids and antibiotics). The following products can be found online and can be tried as a first line approach: Douxo PS Calm shampoo, Essential 6 spot on by dermoscent, Krillex Krill oil chews. Hi there and thank you for using Boop by Petco to address your concern. Based on the photos, Dolores may have a skin infection (yeast or bacterial) or this could be due to allergies. I would recommend the following products, which can be found online quite easily or at your local Petco. I hope this helps! My Labradoodle has a hysterectomy operation 1 month ago and she has had a bad rash on her belly ever since. She is in some distress and she keeps licking and stamping her leg. I have tried a anti-itch spray but this only gives her temporary relief. O
Hello and welcome to Boop by Petco. The most important part of treatment of a rash is to stop the self-trauma. I strongly recommend getting an E-collar for Bess. Once you have this on, I would clean the rash with warm water, and then dry it very well. If there is yellow/cream/green debris, or the pimples are very numerous, then antibiotics might be required. I would try the e-collar for a couple days, if it isn't looking better fairly quickly then I suggest going back to your vet to discuss if antiboitics are required. There isn't really anything that you can put on it in the mean-time to help with the itch, as steroid creams might make it worse if there is a bad infection. Once you stop the licking with the E-collar it should start to improve. Best of luck with Bess.

Ouch, poor Pooch! This rash could be caused by fleas, mites, allergies, a skin infection, or a fungal infection. You need to take him into the vet to get the cause of the rash diagnosed so he can be treated correctly. I'd take him into the vet tomorrow. Best of luck.
