Pet's info: Fish | Betta

I recently observed that my new Betta's rear end is swollen, the swelling is more prominent on left but is visible from both sides. Could this be a serious problem?

The swelling doesn't look too significant. It could be "normal" for this particular fish. Keep an eye on it. If it grows rapidly, you may need to contact an aquatics specialist. In the meantime, maintain pristine water quality via filtration and regular partial water changes. Use only conditioned water that is temperature matched to prevent stress or shock. Bettas are tropical fish and do best between 78 F and 80 F. Plain aquarium salt (NOT table or Epsom salt) can be used as a general tonic to reduce stress, increase gill function, treat minor infection and aid in recovery. Dissolve up to 1 teaspoon per gallon of water and gently pour it into the tank. Treat for 2 weeks them reassess the area.
