My dog has diarrhea and is lethargic after eating rawhide. What to do?

Hi we gave Thanos a a treat made out of rawhide yesterday and he has diarrhea now and a bit lathargic Any thing we can do in the mean time that doesn't involve a visit to the vet??

Poor Thanos. Feed him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, he refuses to eat the bland diet, he starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away.

withhold food for 12 hours then offer him boiled boneless chicken and rice every 6 hours in small portions. if he is eating and not vomiting, continue with this diet for 2 days. After 2 days, you can put him back gradually on his normal food. If the diarrhea and lethargy continues, take him to the vet to get treatment.

If he is very lethargic, have him examined by your veterinarian or at the local veterinary ER. If this is not possible, you can try withholding food for 12-24 hours. Allow small amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte. Resume feeding a bland diet ( boiled boneless / skinless chicken and plain white rice) in small, frequent amounts. Serve warm or mix in a teaspoon or two of baby food to stimulate the appetite. Feed until the stool is normal then transition slowly to the regular diet. If the diarrhea and lethargy do not resolve, you will definitely need to see your veterinarian.

It sounds like Andy has diarrhea and is sick. I can give you a home remedy for him to see if that helps. Feed him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, he starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away.

My 7 month old puppy has mucus, loose stools and a few drops of bright red blood. He had this after eating a rawhide.
Poor Trooper. This is likely from the rawhide but it could also be from parasites, viral infection, any human food, eating something he shouldn’t, and much more. You could try to withhold his food for 12 hours and then reintroduce a small amount of plain chicken (no bones) and white rice to see if this settles his tummy. If he is lethargic, continuing to have bloody diarrhea, vomiting, or refusing to eat then I would have your vet take a look at him. Your vet will be able to do a fecal, blood work or even x-rays if needed. Your vet will also be able to get him started on some meds to help settle his tummy and make him feel better. I hope this helps!
