My dog's penis swells before peeing. Is this normal or concerning?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 7 months old | 32 lbs

I just had a question my trainer told me I should ask to see if this was normal. We were training today and I said oh he hast to go Pee. She said how do you know that he has not made one sign that he needs to go to the bathroom and I said because his penis is big it get bigger when he hast to P and get a really wide and she said seriously not even 10 seconds later he went and Peed. She thought it was just so crazy and then she looked at it again and saw that it was thinner. Said I should ask

That does not sound normal. The bladder is inside the body cavity and that expands but it should not be visible from the outside. The urethra runs through the penis but it does not expand nor does it hold urine. It is only a tube to drain the urine. I recommend to get this checked out. Take photos of the area both before urination and after urination. When you schedule your appointment, make Kai hold his urine for at least 4 hours before the visit. Have the vet thorough examine the area and be sure to point out exactly what you see. Go over the photos as well. Have the doctor go outside with you and let Kai urinate. Then have the area checked again. While it's impossible to know at this point, I would be concerned there could be a herniation of the bladder under the skin or some other anatomical abnormality. Depending on what it is, it may need surgical correction. But again, it's impossible to know without examining. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.
