My Shih Tzu is picky. Is her chicken liver and potato diet the issue?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | unspayed | 5 years and 10 months old | 15 lbs

My dog is a 5 year old small breed shih tzu and somewhat picky on her food for the few days what do you think is a remedy or solution or analization for her pickiness behaviour. By the way i am always giving her boil chicken liver and potatoes

It could be Elicia is sick causing her to be picky. I'd have her seen by a vet for this. By the way, chicken liver and potatoes is not a balanced or healthy diet for her. She should be on a dog food only.

Hey !! I have female shih tzu (1year ) , she doesn’t eat her food properly , when I give her dey food /wet food she just smell it and went , and rather then eating her good she eat treats /meat sticks , like what shall I do to make her eat food ?????
It sounds like she's trained you to give her the good stuff :) I'd first start with a vet visit to rule out a medical cause (Anxiety, intestinal parasites, an issue with her liver processing nutrients called a liver shunt). If everything is normal, then slowly start weaning her off the treats and on to food. It's ok for her to go a day or two without eating a normal amount while you're transitioning her.

My puppy won't eat food because there is no meat or liver in it
This is a common problem. Sometimes once dogs get the taste of specific food like liver or meat they will become really stubborn and not eat until the food is supplemented. I recommend trying tough love and offering food for the day. Now Sweety is young so depending on her weight she might have to eat a few times a day so her blood sugar does not stop. You can try a different brand of food or even mixing in can food to help stimulate her to eat. Hope that helps

If Butter won't eat dog food and you prefer to feed him human food, you will need to make sure that his diet is still complete and balanced. The diet you are currently feeding is NOT complete and balanced, and will cause nutritional deficiencies over the long term.

The best dry diets are often the less palatable ones as well, in very picky dogs this can of course becomes a challenge and a problem. You may want to try Royal canin, it's not the best but it is still a good quality food, it is also very tasty for most dogs.

Unfortunately, chicken and rice is not a balanced diet for the rest of his life! There is something you can do about him being a picky eater, and it does involve tough love. As you say, he won't eat his soft dog food unless he's really hungry. If that's the only food he is offered, then he will start eating it consistently. Put down his food for 15-20 minutes, and once that time is up, pick it up and put it away even if he didn't eat it. Offer him no other food (human food, treats) for the day. At his next mealtime, put his food down for 15-20 minutes, and take it away after that time period. Again, give him no other food between meals. If you keep doing that, he will learn to eat his food at mealtime and he will start eating consistently. It's extremely important for this to work that you give him no other food other than his soft dog food at mealtimes. I hope this helps :-)

I am happy Luna is feeling better but a picky eater can be very frustrating. In my experience most dogs will not starve themselves. Changing foods often or back and forth Luna is learning if she does not eat she will get a better or different food. If the vet told you she is healthy I would start some touch love on her. I would get a food you want to feed and put it out for her. If she does not eat for 1-2 days than I would not be concerned. Typically once Luna realizes she is not getting anything else she will eat. Also if LUna is holding her body weight I do not get overly concerned. My own dogs will eat fast one day and slow or not at all the next. I think dogs will sometimes change there eating habits and this is okay as long as they are maintain weight and are still happy and healthy. I hope that helps

Sweety has decided what her diet will be, but that's not her job . . . it's yours. Stop feeding her the human food. Put regular dog food in a bowl on the floor without fuss and leave it for 15 minutes. After that time, pick it up whether she has eaten or not. Do not give her anything--no treats, snacks or human food--until her next scheduled mealtime. Then repeat the process. It may take several times for her to realize that there will be no more goodies, and that she must eat her food. Remember that you are not starving her–she is choosing not to eat. This is a battle of wills. When she is hungry enough, she’ll give in and eat, and your problem will be solved. Do not weaken or "feel sorry" for her. It will only make it harder to correct. She must have a nutritionally complete diet, which she currently is not getting. Good luck with this!

Hello my puppy has been vomiting and she does not want to eat her food. I feel like she has a sensitive stomach but i don't know what foods would be good for her she seems to not like dry food. She's a Shih Tzu.
If she has been vomiting repeatedly the first step is to get her in to see your vet. She may have a medical condition, infection, or foreign body causing her to vomit. If she is cleared medically, there are a number of diets that are formulated for sensitive stomachs. My personal favorite brands of dog food are Hills Science Diet and Royal Canin and both have multiple formulas in both dry and canned.
