What to do if my parakeet is throwing up seeds and constipated?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Female

My parakeet has been throwing up large amounts of undigested seeds for the past hour off and on. it is violent and she's swinging her head side to side quickly and i keep hearing the seeds clinking against things on her cage. I had her in my hands a few moments ago and i pulled alot of hard stuck together poop from her bottom that looked like it had been collecting there and i think binding her up. She looks scared and it looks involuntary i even had to help her remove some. Please help!

Thanks for reaching out about Marley Romans. Vomiting has many causes including foreign body ingestion and blockage, toxicities (heavy metals, plants, teflon exposure), metabolic disorders (liver, kidney), infections (bacterial, viral) and others. A veterinary visit is recommended to assess and provide a diagnostic/treatment plan. Providing heat support in the 80-85 F range can give some aid but is not in lieu of a veterinary visit. If continues to regurgitate, an emergency visit this evening is recommended. Good luck.
