My dog has vomiting and diarrhea. Can I give her pumpkin? How much?

I don't know if Rosie is allergic or intolerant to dairy so I am wondering if I can give her pumpkin for vomiting and diarrhea and if so how much?

Dairy typically makes most dogs vomit and feel unwell. That being said, if Rosie has both vomiting and diarrhea, it's not recommend to treat at home. Having both of those means the dog is quite sick, and in these cases, a vet visit is always recommended. I strongly urge you to take her into a vet now.

The short answer is...yes. Plain canned pumpkin (NOT pie filling) can be used to add fiber to the diet, promote healthy stool and a healthy gut, but may cause loose stool if too much is given or if Romeo has an allergy to pumpkin. The rule of thumb is 1 teaspoon per 10 pounds of body weight once or twice daily. Decrease the amount if the stool is soft. As long as he is behaving normally, he does not need to be seen by your veterinarian. What you can do at home is withhold food for 12-24 hours. Allow small amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte. Resume feeding a bland diet in small amounts until the stool is normal then transition slowly back to his regular diet. You can try the pumpkin again at a later date, but if he develops loose stools, then discontinue it and consider an alternative. Make sure he has plenty of fresh, clean water to drink at all times. Dehydration may cause firm stool. Monitor for lethargy, vomiting persistent diarrhea, loss of appetite or abdominal pain. These

My dog is throwing up right after drinking wayer...she is not eating and she hasn'the pooped today.
Poor Rosie! It sounds like she is not feeling well. Just like with humans, there are many potential reasons that a dog may have an upset stomach. It can range from bacterial overgrowth, to intestinal obstruction, or even to pancreatitis. I recommend to have Rosie see her veterinarian and the doctor will begin the process to figure out what is wrong. You can try offering her a bland diet of 25% boiled white meat chicken and 75% boiled white rice. This may not help however. It’s always best to be safe. It could be the pumpkin causing Kiko's diarrhea if it's a food she has never had before. It could also be she has intestinal worms, has a GI illness, or may have eaten something rotten. If it appears to be getting better, I can give you a home remedy to try. Feed her a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, she starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. Best of luck.

Dog has had diarrhea since thursday. Still drinking water and eating pumpkin with kefier plain yogurt mixed in.
Poor Cooper! This diarrhea could be caused by a GI illness, eating something rotten, a foreign body, intestinal worms, or a diet change. Do not give her yogurt. Dairy products cause GI upset in dogs, and that could be contributing to the diarrhea. Whenever a dog has been having diarrhea for more than 24 hours, it's time to see the vet. I would take her into the vet first thing Monday morning to diagnose the cause of it so she can be treated. Best of luck.

I can give you a home remedy to see if that helps before having to take Rosie into the vet. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away.

Hello Rosie has had frequent bms today I would say around 6 yesterday she had about 3 she is drinking and eating normally I’m just concerned I plan on fasting her for 24 hours but I wanted a further opinion

Hello, I am sorry for your concerns for Mochi. We often recommend pumpkin to add more bulk or fiber to the diet, so I do not think it will help much in this case. You can try giving her some famotidine ( Pepcid ), 5 mg every 12 hours for a few days to see if this does not settle things down. Keep her on the bland diet of boiled chicken & white rice ( 25% chicken, 75% rice ), or a little low fat cottage cheese for a few more days, as well. Feed small, but frequent meals. Adding a probiotic cannot hurt. I like Proviable or Forti Flora. If she does not straighten out in a short time, or she starts vomiting, please see your veterinarian as soon as possible. Thank you.

Rosie has been throwing up all morning. Is there anything I can give her to help stop this? It’s white and has a weird smell.
If she's been repeatedly vomiting all morning, ideally get her in to see your vet. If she's lethargic or painful as well or is having severe diarrhea, you should definitely try to get her in. You can call you vet for recommendations on what you can give at home, as per my medical license, I cannot directly advise you (whom I haven't met) on extra-label use of medications on a pet that I have not seen. If everything else is normal --she's alert, happy, active, no diarrhea--- withhold food for 12 hours, and offer only very small amounts of water--the amount of a few ice cubes melted--offer a little water every 30-60 minutes. If she is tolerating small amounts of water, then after 12 hours you can try small amounts of a bland diet such as chicken and rice. You can call your vet about over the counter medications. Hi and thanks for using Boop by Petco! Sorry to hear about Casper. Your questions depend greatly on the cause of the vomiting/diarrhea. Vomiting has many causes including intestinal worms, inflammation, infection, dietary problems (including dietary indiscretion or eating things pets are not supposed to eat, food sensitivities/allergies), ingestion of foreign bodies or exposure to toxins, bacterial overgrowth in the gut, problems in the stomach, intestines, or even problems outside of the intestinal tract/stomach including pancreatitis, kidney/liver problems, metabolic disease (diabetes,etc), endocrine diseases (thyroid or other hormone problems), etc. A thorough history and physical exam with resultant diagnostics such as fecal tests, blood tests, imaging studies such as x-rays/ultrasound can be done to try to determine what is going on. If you can't take Casper to the vet, canned pumpkin may help with diarrhea, again depending on the cause. You can feed about 1-2 tablespoons

My dog threw all her food up yesterday & now this morning has thrown up her water... is this serious?
It sounds as Rosie is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking her to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better. if the vet thinks it is more serious she will need a blood test and possibly an ultrasound in order to find out what is wrong.
