My sick cat has elevated liver enzymes and won't eat. What can I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 5 lbs

My 4 year old cat has been sick for the past month, we’ve gone to vet where she had blood work done and was found to have elevated liver enzymes. They pumped her with iv fluids and antibiotics. They told me we need to get her eating. She has lost a lot of weight. She’ll take small bites here and there of tuna and wet cat food, but I know it’s not enough. What else can I do to help my baby!? I’m at a loss. What else should I be trying!? Help Please!

Thnk you for submitting your question regarding Stormy. She may need further testing to determine the source of her illness. Chest x-rays and an abdominal ultrasound could be warranted. More specific blood work such as testing pancreatic values as well as cobalamin and folate levels can help as well. I agree that she needs to eat. Cats can develop a severe liver disease known as fatty liver from going too long without eating. Ask her veterinarian about prescribing an appetite supplement. I hope this information helps!
