My senior dog has new lumps, ear wax, and dry skin. What's wrong?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 9 years and 11 months old | 80 lbs

Dog has mole on back for years recently got bigger. Now 6+ more small lumps randomly all over. 1 ear has slimy gray wax. He is 10. No prior health issues. Skin very dry and flakey.

These lumps could be benign tumors, but in a dog Bo's age, there's always a chance any lump could be malignant. It sounds like he could have an ear infection and may have dandruff causing the dry and flakey skin. I'd have him seen by a vet today for these problems.

Aw poor Tottie! Without examining the lump is impossible to say if it is anything to be worried about. It also sounds like Tottie has an ear infection. I'd recommend taking Tottie to see your veterinarian so that her ears can be checked. Your vet can also check the lump and take a needle sample to determine if it is a problem. My 11 year old cocker spaniel has been getting more of these skin bumps that feel like a pimple and then get dry and flakey, when you pet him you can feel these bumps. Is there anything I can do to help makes these go away or lesson?
It is hard to tell without seeing it in person, but pimple like bumps often indicate an infection like a pyoderma. Sometimes medicated shampoo can be enough to get rid of the bumps, but other times they need oral antibiotics. I would recommend making sure he is on a good flea prevention and speaking with your vet about the possibility of a skin infection. I hope this helps!

My dog had a bump on his neck. It burst a couple of times and has since tripled in size and part of it is now black. It doesn’t seem to bother him but it is scary to look at. What is this and is it life threatening? What is the treatment for this? H
This lump on Johnstamos (LOVE his name!) could be a cyst, a benign tumor, or a malignant tumor. Because it has tripled in size, that does make it concerning. Any suspicious lumps should be examined by the vet. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of its cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. Once the cause of the lump is diagnosed, the vet can discuss treatment options if needed. As for the scabby and crusty ears, those could be due to an ear infection or allergies. Give his vet a call to make him an appointment to have both these things checked out. I hope this helps!

What could be the cause of this? She has this one spot of dry/flakey skin on her neck. The rest of her skin looks fine. There is also a small bump near. It does not hurt her. What can I do about it?
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! In theory this could be a growth but in reality that is unlikely just based on the size and general appearance. I would encourage you to check in with your veterinarian to check for this possibility so that therapy can be used accordingly. If it is just an infection, your veterinarian may put her on an anti-microbial shampoo. Best of luck!

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This could be a benign or malignant growth. This may even be an abscess. There is no way of knowing what it is just based on its appearance. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. Since he has not been drinking well, they would also be able to check if something else is also affecting him by checking into other possible concurrent issues such as gastroenteritis or pancreatitis for instance. My 11 yr old chihuahua mix has 3 flesh colored bumps that develop yellow oily crusts that can be picked off. Bumps are about the size of like a number button on a TV remote.
I would guess that these are sebaceous adenomas or benign skin growths that are common in older dogs. There are some other skin tumors that could look similar however and it would be best to have your veterinarian examine Linguine in person to be 100% sure.

Boomer's coat changes could be related to underlying endocrine/metabolic disorders (hypothyroidism or Cushing's disease), allergies, seborrhea, among others. Watch closely to determine if you have noticed any changes in Boomer's water consumption, urine frequency and volume, appetite and energy level. Any of these changes can help your vet determine if he has an underlying condition. Boomer should see his vet for an exam and possible blood and skin testing to determine the cause of his changes so that appropriate treatment can be started.

My 10 year old black lab has a large red bump on his shoulder that ozes then scabs up and continues this cycle. He has had ongoing allergic reactions to something unknown with ear and skin issues but now he is developing this mass.
Poor Boss, that's a nasty looking lesion. Without seeing it in personI couldn't say for sure what might be the cause. Hopefully it is a type of benign skin cyst, but I am concerned it may be a type of skin tumor. Your vet will be able to examine him and if they can't be certain to what it is they may suggest a non invasive needle biopsy / aspirate, this can tell them what type of cells they are and if there is cancer.

My dog had a bump on her ear I just found. It’s white, not too hard but not completely soft. It’s the same color as her skin besides a little bit of gunk around it, looks like dirt. She’s around 10-11 years old. It was hard to show and take pictures
