My ferret is constantly itching. How can I help him before the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Ferret | Male | unneutered | 2.4 lbs

i have a ferret who itches a lot. its not causing imflammation of the skin, but he seems to be itching nearly all the time he is awake. is there anything i can do to help releive his itching until i can give him a small bath and take him to the vet. (with his itching he has seemed to catch his eye and made it bleed. i have rinsed the eye and am keeping a close watch on him, but really want to help him with the itchyness) thanks.

I'm sorry but there is really nothing you can give orally to him. You are not likely to find a dose small enough of medication to give him. It is best to just get him to the vet as soon as you can for an exam. He is uncomfortable for sure but I think he can handle it for another day. You can try a soak of apple cider vinegar (NOT WHITE VINEGAR) that may help. One teaspoonful of apple-cider vinegar in a sinkful of rinse water. You don't need to rinse it off.
