My dog's nose is discolored and bottom lip is red. What's wrong?

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Princess. This discoloration and redness could be due to an injury, allergies, or infection. Without seeing her in person, I can't say what is going on. I'd have her seen by a vet in the morning. Best of luck.

HI, thanks for using Boop by Petco! I wouldn't say it is normal but it likely isn't serious. It could be an abrasion from hitting/rubbing his lip on something, an insect bite, the start of an infection or an immune issue. If he isn't bothered by it I would watch it for a bit. If it goes away then it was likely trauma. If it gets wore or persists for more than 2 weeks I would have him seen by your Vet. Good luck!

a month ago, my dog had a little bumpy discoloration on the nose, not itching but growing. i applied Fucidin and gave her omega sup. it stopped growing. now she's having a new one. she was under stress six months ago:traveling and spaying. i live in
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! The little area of discoloration is not necessarily anything to worry about. I see this commonly with time with dark skinned animals. As long as the skin does not seem irritated and the discoloration does not happen on the nose itself, I am inclined to just continue to watch it. Apply a dab of children’s sunscreen lotion before she goes outside to protect that area from sunburn. Best wishes to you and Luna!

Hi, my rotweiller has all of a sudden lost pigmentation under her nose , was fine when I went to work and was likes this when I got home , is this something serious? Should I take her to the vet? Should I wait and see ? Thanks
Hello and thank you for contacting Boop by Petco. It could be due to acne development or other local allergic or inflammatory reaction. As long as this area is not painful and is not bothering your dog, you can monitor her at home for the weekend. However, if the area is sore or is bothering your dog, you should take her to your local vets tomorrow.

Hi, my dog has a red and swollen nose. She is a 4 year old chihuahua.
Thank you for contacting Boop by Petco with your question about Sasha. Poor girl. She may have injured it, have an infection, a growth in it, or is suffering from an allergic reaction. She will have to see a vet for this. If she can breathe ok, isn't lethargic, and is otherwise acting normally, it can wait until the morning. If she is struggling to breathe, is lethargic, or acting differently, take her into an ER vet now. I hope this helps!

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This is probably from him rubbing his nose against a cage or something like that. I would suggest checking on that possibility. Otherwise, if that is not possible and this continues have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment to check on a possible infection. Best of luck!

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Boop by Petco. From the photo, this area does not looking concerning to me. However, if you are concerned and/or if this area bothers your pet, I recommend having him evaluated by your veterinarian. Your vet can examine this area and determine if it is a normal variation in his skin, or if it could possibly be a mass. You can also monitor this area for ~1 week to see if it changes in size/shape or feel. I hope this is helpful!

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This is possibly due to early onset dog acne. You can buy online or at your local pet store chlorhexidine based pads which are an antimicrobial you can apply twice daily for a week. If no improvement, have her evaluated by your veterinarian at that time for further assessment and treatment as other possibilities include skin allergies or mange for instance. Good luck!

He is 9mons old, and his nose starting change like those pictures. His health and his nose is always wet. I want to know why. Please give me some advice thank you.
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This is likely a normal change in pigmentation which does not warrant further treatment at all. It could also be a healing superficial laceration. If not associated with itchiness or discomfort, this is unlikely to require any therapy at all. If you notice any discharge, itchiness or discomfort, have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Good luck!

Hello, I am rather concerned about a red patch on/under my dogs bottom lip. It has been there for a couple of days now, and even clearing the area isn’t helping. Please can you help me understand what this is?
Hello. Without a clear picture, it is impossible to assess what might be the problem. Since cleaning the area has not helped ( have you been using a mild skin cleanser such as one with chlorhexidine? ), this might be some kind of allergic irritation. These can especially show up if the feed &/or water bowels are made of any type of plastic. Always use stainless steel or ceramic dishes. If this does not seem to be the case, then the best thing is to have your veterinarian take a good look at the skin. Your vet can assess the area, do some rather simple skin scrapes or hair analysis to see if this is an allergic, inflammatory or infectious process. Good luck & thanks for using Boop by Petco.
