Pet's info: Small Animal | Hamster | Male | unneutered | 4 months and 14 days old
Hello! My hamster, Leo, has been getting poop stuff in his rectum. Sometimes it is half out and other times it is inside and I can feel it. I gently squeezed one out today and it was dry. I have noticed this for a couple of weeks now but I feel like it is much worse. He eats and drinks fine. I am thinking it could be his diet? He is about 5 months old. Thanks!

Thanks for reaching out about Leo. Dry feces can be a result of diet but also dehydration. Hamsters are desert animals and usually drink very little, acquiring water from their food item. Retained feces could also be a problem with intestinal motility, and should be assessed through a veterinary visit. A fecal examination for parasites is also recommended. Good luck.
