My cat's eye is cloudy and third eyelid visible after puncture. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Maine Coon | Female | spayed

Hi! I took my cat to the vet to treat an eye infection. They said she had a corneal puncture, and initially stitched her eye shut (without telling me). I was horrified when I came to pick her up and saw pus around the stitches, which had come loose. The vet took the stitches out, and prescribed Ilium Optichlor (2x/day), Optixcare Eye Lube Plus (2x/week) and Vibravet 100 Paste (1x/day). It's been 11 days, her eye is cloudy and the third eyelid is visible. I'm worried. Is there anything I can do?

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Odette. Oh no, poor girl. Sounds like both of you have been through a tough time. I do not like the way this eye looks, but without seeing her in person, I can't say what needs to be done for her. I would see if there is a veterinary ophthalmologist in your area that you can take her into as soon as possible. Best of luck.
