Is it safe for male cats to be around newborn kittens and the queen?

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | unspayed

queen gave birth to 4 kittens and i have seperated them from other males in house. The problem here is that the male that been taking care of the queen keep meowing like crazy to enter the bathroom and gone crazy keep calling the female out and at the same time he cannot even see the other male in house and will start to fight.What should i do about it. Can the male enter and taking care of kitten or he will eat? What can i do to stop the fight between those males? I gone crazy please help

No, the male cannot be anywhere near the kittens or the mother. Queens can be extremely protective of her kittens, and could attack him. He could also hurt the kittens. I'd have the males neutered asap to stop this behavior.

No, that would not be a good idea. Cats are not like people. The males do not "know" that those are his kittens. He may see them as a threat and kill them. Male cats typically have nothing to do with rearing the kittens and it is just not a good idea. Not to mention that sometimes the female cats will come right back into heat after giving birth so she could potentially get pregnant again and it can be harmful for her to become pregnant again so soon. Please keep them separated from each other. There is no reason for the male to have access to the kittens at all. Hope this helps. Good question!

Hormonal changes can definitely cause changes in behavior such as what you are describing. It would be best to keep the male separate from the queen, especially if she is already acting aggressively toward him. Once the kittens are born, the queen will likely get even more protective, which could result in injury if you leave the cats together.

I would keep Lazgah away from your female and the kittens. Some tomcats will attack and kill the kittens as a means to get the attention of the busy mother away from them. I would not allow him to have any contact with her or the kittens until the kittens are weaned from their mother.

Yes, he can harm the kittens. Some tomcats have attacked and killed their own offspring in order to get the attention of the mother cat, and bring her back into heat so they can mate again. Since you have a single bedroom, I would keep Ash in the bedroom alone and do not allow the male cat in with her or the kittens. Best sure to keep a litter box, food, and water in there for her. If that truly won't work, I recommend having him staying somewhere else during the first couple of weeks of the kittens's life to prevent him from hurting them. I hope this helps.

It is most probable that the male cat is the father of the kittens. As long as your mother cat and kitten are safe and the male cat is not harming them I would not be too concerned. However, keep in mind, that the Mother cat cat can become pregnant again within just a few weeks of giving birth. If you do not want her having any more kittens then you should have her spayed as soon as possible. If the male cat is irritating your pregnant female the best thing you can do is to keep them separated until after the kittens are born. It should not affect the kittens if they are around each other but it may lead to undue stress for your female cat. If you are unable to safely separate them at home you may want to consider boarding the male cat or having him stay with a friend or family member until the kittens are born. Unfortunately, it is a normal cat behavior for male cats to kill kittens that are not theirs. Temari cannot protect all her kittens at once. You must keep adult male cats (and 7 months old is an adult male cat) away from any kittens in order to protect the kittens.

You should keep the male completely separate from Nancy until the kittens are weaned, around six to eight weeks of age. She will be protective of her kittens, leading her to attack him, but also if she goes into heat again (which can happen), she will mate with him and become pregnant again. If he has left them a lone for the most part, then he will likely continue to leave them be. There is no risk in having the father cat around the kittens unless he has or starts to exhibit aggressive behavior towards them- then you will wan to keep him away. Hi and thanks for your request. Probably she is not accepting the male as she is not in heat or she is already pregnant. As said in a previous question, I would recommend to separate them as you suggested or castrate the males to avoid further unwanted pregnancies.
