My dog has a lump on his neck near his collar. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | unneutered | 4 years and 10 months old | 87 lbs

My dog has a lump on the left side if his neck where his collar would go. He hasn't had any trouble eat or drinking yet, he seems to be in a great goofy mood like his normal self. Just worried about the lump.... what should I do

Hello. It is always best to know what is going on with any lump. It could be an abscess, salivary gland infection, or lymphoma, all of which need to be treated, but in very different ways. You really want to get this looked at as soon as possible as a simple problem can escalate into a major one & now you have to play catch-up. I know it is scary to think this might be serious, but many times an early diagnosis can lead to complete resolution. Good luck & thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
