Why won't my young dog in her first heat let a male dog mate with her?

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Female | unspayed | 8 months and 16 days old

Today is the eleventh day rita is on heat. But she is not letting the male mount her. When he come near her she stands for him and when he mounts she sits or run and never let him mate. Why?

Rita is quite young, and she isn't fully mature emotionally or physically. She may not realize what she needs to do, which could be why she won't let the male mate. Dogs on their first heat under the age of one should never be mated, they are too young. Female dogs should only mate for the first time around two years of age.

The most common reason why dogs refuse to mate is that it is the wrong time in the estrous cycle. If mating is attempted too early in the cycle, the bitch may not be receptive. A female raised as a house pet may be a shy breeder because of inadequate social contact with members of her own species. Mate preference, too, can be a determining factor. A bitch may refuse one male dog but may like another. I suggest you give her more time. Make sure you introduce her to the male at the right time in her cycle or, better yet, keep the two together throughout her entire cycle. If she hasn't been well socialized with other dogs then work on that. That may be why she doesn't know how to act around the male. If all else fails you can resort to artificial insemination. You can speak to your vet about how to get that done.

I am trying to breed my 2 yr old male puppy with a 1 yr old female puppy both are yorkies. She’s in heat but he continues to run away from her. Am I doing something wrong?
Your female is too young and you should not breed her yet. Dogs should not be bred until they are 2 years old because they are physically and mentally immature. Additionally, Yorkies have a few health concerns so both parents need to be screen before breeding. Any dog that is bred should be with the intention to contribute the best genetics to the breed. Not because they are nice dog, are pure bred or because they are cute. Here is a link about Yorkies and the conditions that require screening. Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! No, age doesn't matter in the animal world. I can think of 2 reasons: 1) she isn't ready yet 2) he is inexperienced and doesn't know what to do. If this is the case you might miss this round. He'll eventually get it. I wish you the best!

The optimum time for breeding is the 9th-10th day of heat, as a female dog typically won't accept a male dog during the first seven days of her heat. It could be that she is in this first part of her heat, and after another few days, she may accept your male dog. I would wait a few days, then try again.

Female is 4 years n male is just 4 months. Female is expected to be on heat in July. How should I handle both. When is right time for both to have babies.
Males can mate after 6 months of age. Females can be bred, ideally, after 2 years of age. Separating them during this upcoming heat cycle would be recommended if you are not prepared to breed dogs and have a litter of puppies. By her next cycle, both will be more than ready to breed and in the interim, you can gain knowledge regarding breeding and raising dogs.

Hi and thanks for your post. If Murci is not standing for the male, she is likely still in proestrus and not in estrus. Proestrus can last for a couple weeks and is marked with vaginal swelling and vaginal bleeding. You may need to wait a few more days until she will be behaviorally receptive to the male. No, she’s still just a teenager and needs to mature before being bred. Young dogs have more trouble giving birth and they are not usually as good at being a mother as older, more mature dogs. I usually recommend waiting until the second or third heat to breed a dog. Thanks for using Boop by Petco to help you care for California.

My female dog is in heat. i let my male dog go to her but he doesnt hump her but is only interested in licking her vaginal area.
It sounds like she may not be ready to breed yet - the male dog generally knows. Usually, females are ready for breeding somewhere around day 12-15 of their heat cycle, but this will vary depending on the individual female. If you want to know for sure, you can talk to your veterinarian about progesterone testing so that you'll know when she ovulates, and can time your breeding dates appropriately from there.

It may be that your male is still very young and doesn't know what to do yet. Keeping them together during your female's heat may help get him interested in trying to figure it out. However if he still doesn't show any interest, having both him and your female examined by a vet or theriogenologist (reproductive specialist) to make sure everything is OK is best.

Yes, it is possible for a female dog to get pregnant on her first heat cycle, however I do not recommend it since she may not be done growing yet and she may not be mature enough to take care of puppies in a couple months. Not all male dogs will be able to impregnate a female before they reach maturity.
