Is it normal for my dog's fever to fluctuate on antibiotics?

Yes, it could be possible a dog has a fluctuating fever while on antibiotics. Fevers can be caused by viruses as well as bacteria, and antibiotics do not treat viruses, thus leading to the continued presence of a fever. If you are concerned about her, I'd have her seen by a vet. I hope this helps!

Not every pet with a fever has an infection, so if the antibiotic isn’t working it’s either because there is no infection, the infection is internal, or the antibiotic is not the right kind of antibiotic for the infection. Your pet needs additional testing to sort this out and make sure we are on the right track with treatment. I would start with baseline bloodwork and a urinalysis. Best to take your pet back in to your vet or to another vet for a second opinion here so that we can get a proper diagnosis and tailored treatment based on your pets specific problem. N Ava isn't throwing up anymore but still having recurring fever. What do I do about the fever?
I am so sorry to hear that your pet has a fever of unknown origin I’m assuming. The vet has to run labs to try and find the source of the fever. Has she had any testing done? Bloodwork and urinalysis would be the first place I would start. If she has a high white blood cell count, then antibiotics can be started on her to treat for a suspected infection, which can then be assumed to be the source of the fever. Fever in pets doesn’t happen randomly, and in most cases antibiotics prescribed by your vet are needed. I would highly discourage you from using any over the counter human fever reducer medicaiton, as these can be quite toxic in pets. It’s best to feed Ava as normal and offer her plenty of access to water until she can be seen by your vet. I hope this helps. Best wishes in getting Ava’s fever to come down. Hi and thanks for posting! If Bruno was diagnosed with a tick borne illness by his veterinarian, the fever he experienced may be due to this. If he was placed on any inflammatory medications, this would have helped his fever subside. There are many other medical causes of fever in dogs aside from tick borne diseases which should be explored and ruled out with Bruno's veterinarian. A fever this high is usually indicative of a bacterial or viral disease going on. Your veterinarian will need to run some tests to try and determine the cause of the fever. Once the cause is identified the proper antibiotics, antifungals, or antipruritic drugs can be prescribed. The tablet given to your dog is basically a fever reducer but will not treat the cause of the fever. I would recommend taking your dog in for a recheck as soon as you’re able to. She is very hot I think she has a fever and would like to know what we can give her and she has been coughing and sneezing a lot they gave us a liquid medicine for her but to me its seems like she is getting worse
A dogs normal body temp is 101-102.5 so they will feel warm to us normally. You can use a rectal thermometer if you want to assess her temperature. If you feel she is worsening despite medication I recommend a veterinary visit. Do not give any human fever reducers as they are toxic to dogs. If she had kennel cough or an upper respiratory infection it can occasionally progress to pneumonia so Augustine needs a recheck with a vet if she is not improving I hope Augustine feels better soon. Your question got cut off - there are limited characters. However, I can try to give you a little information based on what I can read. I would not regard a temperature taken during or right after a car ride as this could raise the temperature from anxiety. Continue on all the medications given to you by your vet as s/he prescribed. I am not sure why your vet did not feel like tests were needed. There are many patients I see where I don't think testing is needed. This is a question you will need to ask your vet. If Riko is not doing better then testing may be needed. If you voice your concerns to the vet I am sure they will be happy to run some testing if that will make you feel better. Hope this helps. This a very concerning fever your dog had. 15 days of antibiotics should have cleared this upper respiratory infection up. Obviously it has not , so you need to take Bruiser back to the vet for a recheck and more, possibly different type of antibiotics. He may have a foreign body in his upper airways, a tumor, possible sinus infection (bacterial or fungal). Unfortunately distemper also has similar signs (this would be concerning if your dog is not up to date on your vaccinations). I suggest you make an appointment with your vet.

If Mia has a fever it is probably because she is suffering from an infection. you need to take her to the vet in order to get her checked, if she has an infection indeed the vet will prescribe an antibiotic course for Mia to get better.
