My puppy's belly is swollen after deworming. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pomeranian | Female | unspayed | 1 month and 5 days old | 5 lbs

Hi. I have a 35 day puppy who was taken away from her mother by a previous owner at 15 days old. Her belly is very swollen and distended. I took her to the vet today to get a checkup and they said she seemed to have been force fed with the wrong kind of food and likely has worms. I just dewormed her today after the vet visit. She is pooping very very little. What should I do for the swollen stomach? I am giving her the new milk replacement given by the vet. But her belly is very taut & swollen.

You can get this swollen belly from intestinal worms. If there was something to give Roxie for it, the vet would give it to her. You have to wait and see if the deworming treatment helps. If it does not, have her seen by a vet again.
