Why is my German Shepherd puppy limping, panting, and coughing?

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Female | unspayed | 7 months and 13 days old | 65 lbs

I have a 7 month old GSD. She can’t put pressure on her front right paw it seems. She is usually hyper and playing but all she wants to do now is lay down. But she can’t stay comfortable and is always re adjusting and panting. She also keeps like sneezing or coughing noise.

It sounds like there are a few things going on with Mavis. If she can't put pressure on her front right paw, that means she is in pain. Pain would also cause her to have trouble getting comfortable, and can lead to the panting. The sneezing and coughing could be due to a respiratory infection. Please take her into the vet in the morning for these issues.

Keep an eye on Nyx. If she continues to be uncomfortable tomorrow, I would have her examined by her vet. It could be "growing pains" or something like panosteitis, an inflamed nerve, a sprain, etc. Try to limit activity today (only walking outside on a leash, limited jumping or running). Also, look very closely around each paw pad and between her toes for any punctures, dried mud, or objects stuck in the fur.

Any breathing abnormalities should be addressed by your veterinarian as soon as possible. Dyspnea is difficulty breathing and is a generalized term. It can be a result of a respiratory infection, trauma, allergies, a foreign body in the airways, and numerous other things. If your pet is having difficulty breathing, please see your vet right away.

My 1 year old German Shepherd has been limping for ~2 weeks. There is not outward signs of injury. He has not shown signs of pain until today when he has started panting/ dry heaving. Any suggestions?
Limping itself is an indication of pain, so Koda has likely been in pain for the last two weeks. Please have him seen by your vet to help determine the cause of the limping. It could be a muscular issue, joint problem, infection, or a fracture. Pain medications meant for humans can be very dangerous (and even deadly) for dogs, so I do not recommend giving any to your pup without consulting with your vet. Your veterinarian can prescribe safe medication to help with Koda’s condition if necessary. Dry heaving in a large barrel-chested dog such as Koda is concerning as well, as it can sometimes be an indication of bloat. Bloat, although relatively rare, can occur in any dog, although large deep chested dogs tend to be affected by it more frequently. A distended abdomen, retching without production of vomit, salivation, pale gums, and labored breathing can be signs of bloat, and if you notice these signs you should rush Koda to the vet immediately.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! I’m sorry to hear Zara is in pain. I recommend taking her to a vet for radiographs of her leg. She could have something like growing pains, where her bones grow quicker than her body or something more concerning like osteochondritis dissecans (OCD) an inflammation or lesion of the cartilage in the joint. Either way, she needs safe medications to alleviate her pain. After a diagnosis is made, the vet can direct you to the best treatment method. Good luck and kisses to Zara!

There are many possible reasons but especially in German shepherds, hip dysplasia would be a serious concern, especially if she is reluctant to jump up or stretch. Most muscle injuries would be expected to be improving over 3-4days and xrays would be advisable if not settling

This could be due to dust, or strong scents in the environment. I would first check to see if that's a possibility. Things like sand storms, construction, perfumes and smoke can irritate the nasal passages and cause them to sneeze like this. An infection is also possible. Sometimes they can get a mild infection similar to a cold. These infections have the possibility to go away on their own, or can get worse with time. The scratching is suspicious of an allergy, but could also be due to other things like fleas or mites. A vet would need to exam Margo in order to determine this. If Margo starts having nasal discharge, loses energy, or otherwise seems worse, then I'd recommend taking her to a vet. I hope that helps and Margo gets better soon.

Sasha is so cute, but I'm sorry she's doing poorly! If she is limping, she is breathing heavily, trembling, and panting a lot, this can be a sign she is in pain. This would explain why she couldn't even go up the the stairs. If she's finally laying down and isn't showing any of this signs you described in your post, I would keep an eye on her for now and make an appointment for her with the vet in the morning. Now if these symptoms you are describing are continuing, then I think having her seen by a vet now would be best. In this case, please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

A cough could be a sign of a respiratory infection like kennel cough, or could be a sign of respiratory or heart disease. At her age I would recommend having a vet examine her for the cough to rule out anything more serious. I'm not quite sure I can picture what you mean by walking like a soldier, but if Princesa is limping, again, it would be a good idea to have her examined by your vet.

Asthma is unlikely. You can easily check for a fever using a human thermometer and inserting it gently into the rectum. Normal in dogs is 100-102.5. Panting randomly could be caused by pain, anxiety, heart disease, lung disease, anemia, etc. So if continues to go on, Bella should be examined by a vet.

German shepherd puppy can't run or jump after jumping up for a toy and falling. Cried for a little while but stopped and is walking gingerly on the injured foot. Is he ok? And what should I do?
Poor little guy! I'm glad to hear that he is walking on the injured foot, even if he isn't full bearing weight on it, as this indicates that a fracture is less likely. Since he is improving already, a soft tissue (tendon, ligament, muscle) injury seems more likely. Restrict his activity to a very small room or crate so that he cannot jump on or off of furniture. If he is still bothered by the injured leg tomorrow, take him to his vet tomorrow for evaluation and possible x-rays. Do not give any medications without first consulting your vet!
